SCaRs - Statistical Coinages at Random (split fr. R.A. Deserves)

Hey, I just got the idea for a new game.
Drop a Scrabble set, then close your eyes and pick up three tiles.
Then you have to make up a baseball related acronym out of those letters.

Here you go. Use this instead of a scrabble bag.

I got VNH:
Very Negligible Hits: Total of a batter's hits that are tiny little bleeders that roll to a stop between the mound and the shortstop or are flares that drop in when the defense can't decide whose job it is got catch them.

Sure, Jeter is hitting .311 this year, but his VNH rate is 28%! That's unsustainable!

QTO: Quality Take Offs
Good jumps when stealing a base.

"Bay isn't all that fast, but he gets a good read off the pitcher. He leads the team in QTOs, which is why he's 12-for-13 in stolen bases this year."

RZL:Runs in zone, lefties.

The runs scored on balls hit to a fielder's zone by lefty batters. reduced to a +/- where zero is league average for that position.

HYC - Hyperbolic Yankee Clutchness

He got one hit with men in scoring position in seventeen post season at bats. But it drove in the key ninth run in that exciting 11-2 win.
Swisher's HYC percentage of .0588 is off the charts.

DWH: Defense While Hitting.

The overall rating of the opponents defense while a player is hitting, as compared to the team's defense against everyone else. Used to measure things like if fast runners force fielders to rush into more mistakes than their more lumbering counterparts.

JLC: Juggles Lost at Catcher

Posada was a good hitting catcher but he led the league in JLC eight times in 10 years. I swear every time I went to the park he dropped about three foul tips that shoulda been strike three.

TUV: Throw-Under Value; measure of player's ability to accrue undeserved tabloid-press blame to himself-- whether voluntarily or involuntarily-- in order to draw heat from another, more deserving target in the same organization.

Rodriguez's body may be failing with increasing regularity, and his on-field skills markedly degrading, but his dating habits, taste in commissioned art, and general shmuckiness give him a TUV unsurpassed by any third-baseman in the modern era.

Went for a four-letter today. I got FVYJ. I was puzzled for a moment before recognizing it.

Factored Value of Youthful Judgment: The plus-minus figure added to a player's value on the trade market in light of reports of his bahavior during his developmental years.

Who cares about Valdespin missing two weeks of at-bats in Caracas? The real effect of his winter suspension is its impact on on his FVYJ, It was already down in Alhaji Turay territory, but now it's careening toward Brien Taylor and Josh Hamilton. All-time FVYJ legends.

PMU: Past Met Underperformance.

Alomar's PMU rating went unchallenged until the 2010-2012 tenure of Bay, which shattered even the Fosterian standard set in 1982.

For those of you at work you can use this site to generate your own 3 or 4 letter random acronym.

I will throw mine out there later today.
