Andres Torres and YOUR Memories of Him

Noted earlier, but 56 returns to San Francisco.

Wounded on opening day and never got untracked here. Opened the door for Kirk, which was really cool, and then it really wasn't.

As flaccid a season as he had, by all rights, he should be the top 56 in Mets history, but I'm surprised to see we've had eight players wear LT's number, with Brian McRae probably the best.

Really wanted him to do well, what with the ADHD and all the Giants fans saying he was such a good guy and all that. But... we move on, and by 2018 I'll forget he was ever on the team.

Looked like the best player on the team for 2 or 3 very brief stretches. Overall, played like a a guy who understood he was only going to be here until somebody better came around, and no better.

And that better player still hasn't arrived.

Re: Andres Torres and YOUR Memories of Him

He scored the only run of the game in Santana's Opening Day victory -

Despite that, I inexplicably disliked him. I swear to G-d I'd be channeling my grandfather and calling him all sorts of names, for reasons that I cannot put a finger on.

Re: Andres Torres and YOUR Memories of Him

Kept thinking I was missing something with him. Then I realized, no, it's him, not me.

Had a heckuva day when Dickey beat the Marlins on a Citi Field August afternoon when no Met was doing anything well at home all summer: three-quarters of a cycle, all the hard parts, too.

Re: Andres Torres and YOUR Memories of Him

Torres was the Schaefer Mets Player of the Game four times in 2012: June 24, July 15, August 11, September 30.

His best Schaefer day, however, was August 9, when he earned 3.32 points, second to R.A. Dickey's 5.07.

Exactly. I have no idea why he rubbed me the wrong way, but rub he did.

I never got close enough to him for him to rub me.

So a tug was out of the question, then?

Re: Andres Torres and YOUR Memories of Him

Made more dopey baserunning mistakes than any Met since the CF he was traded for.

Fare thee well, Latino bearded guy.
