...who is going to the Jays along with Dickey and Thole. Here's where they go. Step right up.

Re: Memories of Mike Nickeas...

We saw him play in Trenton when he was a B-Met and he signed for MK. Anyone who is good to my kid gets a lot of leeway from me.

A few weeks later he was a Met.

Good luck Mike - I hope you find your swing.

Re: Memories of Mike Nickeas...

Creepy stalking Wifey pics responsible for one of the best CPF threads of all-time.

Actor in Mets trade chain dating back to Tim Bogar, now shockingly continuing that chain.

Pretty crappy baseball player.

Don't be sad, cuz 2 outta 3 ain't bad.

Re: Memories of Mike Nickeas...

Nickeas stunned McFadden's (where I watched an entire home game going on just steps away) with his first MLB home run, versus the Astros, the night Jason Bay came off the DL after whatever malady befell him in ST 2011. It was one of those rare unsung feelgood moments of this perhaps expiring era, everybody cheering, the Mets sticking it to somebody decidedly worse than them early in a season where they were the dregs.

I had the pleasure of telling the third-rate, second-string Channel 4 sports guy on Twitter that he was pronouncing the man's name wrong. It's Nuh-Key-Us, not NICK-ee-us said with Dennis Miller inflections, babe.

Did we do one of these for Thole yet?

Re: Memories of Mike Nickeas...

This Nickeas deal keeps alive the longest active Mets trade chain:

Tim Bogar --> traded to Houston for Luis Lopez
Luis Lopez --> traded to Milwaukee for Bill Pulsipher (his second Mets tenure)
Bill Pulsipher --> traded to Arizona for Lenny Harris
Lenny Harris --> traded to Milwaukee (with others) for Jeromy Burnitz (his second Mets tenure)
Jeromy Burnitz --> traded to Los Angeles for Victor Diaz
Victor Diaz --> traded to Texas for Mike Nickeas
Mike Nickeas --> traded to Toronto today

Re: Memories of Mike Nickeas...

I think the discussions of Nickeas as a pitching prospect turned catching prospect on this forum were more noteworthy than anything he actually did on the field.

Re: Memories of Mike Nickeas...

He was a truly inspirational player.
He inspired every 12 year old kid watching him to think, "Maybe I CAN become a major leaguer some day".

Re: Memories of Mike Nickeas...

Pretty impressive that the Mets, after non-tendering, brought him back with a minor-league contract. Despite his apparent failure as a big leaguer last season, they recognized that, with his experience catching the knuckler, he still had value. Whether they brought him back to use as Thole insurance for themselves, or had planned to dangle him in a Dickey package all along, I dunno, but good on them for seeing that his silver lining, thin as it was, was a valuably rare one.

A true CPF classic.

I'll always associate Nickeas and Thole with Ellie's obsession with them on Twitter. She's the fangirliest of fangirls.
