Kid wants a Wii game console. Am ignorant on this stuff. Do I want the newest Wii u or is the old version adequate. What else do indeed to get started. Thanks.

The new Wii looks pricey?......over $400 with certain options
|
Ceetar Nov 28 2012 06:57 AM Re: santa 2012 |
I haven't been paying attention much. the gaming seems to make it to the back burner of the secondary stove in my list of hobbies, but generally you want the Wii U, which does look pretty cool. I don't know if the new games will ultimately work on the old system, so if he's going to want any of the games that come out in the next couple of years..

I'm excited by the WiiU, but I'd bet there are probably sweet deals on the old Wii right now. Probably better to start there. We've had the Wii for five years, and MW loves it. We play at least 3-4 nights a week after we put MWette to bed; two enormous thumbs up to the entire spectrum of Lego games (Harry Potter and Star Wars are both winners, and we got Batman 2 out of the library this weekend and we're enjoying that too). The Mario games are of course excellent too, and it's taken some time for him to get the handle on the controls, but he's getting better fast. I'm a huge Zelda fan as well; both Zelda games were amazing.

Yeah, I was thinking that Lil Bucket is older and might know what's what in the gaming world....

John Cougar Lunchbucket Nov 28 2012 07:50 AM Re: santa 2012 |
Thanks for the advice. The price of the new one really is a turnoff, games are 2x the price too. Irish I thought you got Google shit for free.

Ceetar Nov 28 2012 08:57 AM Re: santa 2012 |
no, I meant I was googling to see what it has. verb, not noun.
|
metirish Nov 28 2012 09:01 AM Re: santa 2012 |
Exactly , it's fast, hell the prototype they gave me is still fast and this has a newer processor( http://www.samsung.com/global/business/ ... wsId=12321 ).....the one I have has data connectivity , it came with two free years of Verizon data, I don;t think I ever used it beyond playing around with it....and like you I have the option of using my phone as a tether...but Wifi is so prevalent....plus, how ofter would you be using this outside your home?

themetfairy Nov 28 2012 09:31 AM Re: santa 2012 |
I meant to ask about an SD slot, and it looks like the new model has that!

The Samsung Chromebook I want and ordered a few weeks back is sold out everywhere and I have no idea when I will get it....I refuse to pay the mark up I am seeing on the few that are available through Amazon....

Ceetar Dec 24 2012 09:40 AM Re: santa 2012 |

on the Nexus at least, it requires both Samsung's and the phone carrier's input/bloatware. Part of the 'hands off' nature of the open source Android system. this is why it takes months to get OS updates after Google releases them.
|
metirish Dec 24 2012 09:43 AM Re: santa 2012 |
Not on the Nexus 4 as it is sold direct from Google ......pure Android...no bloatware from LG or the phone company, it's unlocked....it seems they didn't anticipate the demand for the phone. As for updates, I get them right away on my Samsung Nexus precisely because I bought straight from Google.....this is obviously true for the LG Nexus....

John Cougar Lunchbucket Dec 24 2012 09:51 AM Re: santa 2012 |
btw Irish, thanks for the help, got the Wii sports thing you recommended only $129. Set it up already but still hidden from Lunchpail.

Ceetar Dec 24 2012 11:46 AM Re: santa 2012 |

really? neat. although I think it's the Nexus that my brother and law has been complaining about and vowing to go iOS next. It's almost like Google experiments with things like chromebooks and whatnot to see how things should be done..and then abandons them. Didn't they have an ISP running somewhere for a couple of years too?
|
metirish Dec 24 2012 11:54 AM Re: santa 2012 |
The your bro in law bought his from either Sprint or Verizon and not direct from the Play Store...the one like I got from the Play Store works only on AT&T or T-Mobile in the USA......and this is why I got away from carrier phones....they take forever with updates for various reasons....
|
Ceetar Dec 24 2012 12:51 PM Re: santa 2012 |
|
presumably it cost you another $200 that way though no? given the '2 year we own you' bit from Verizon/etc?
|
metirish Dec 24 2012 01:17 PM Re: santa 2012 |
I bought the Samsung Nexus for $349.....sounds like a lot but in reality it was a great price for a top of the line phone......even better , the LG Nexus 4 goes for $299 from Google.....good luck finding it in stock though :)

the few times I've looked at legitimately purchasing audiobooks the prices have always seemed way off to me. I have no idea how they set them.
