Kid wants a Wii game console. Am ignorant on this stuff. Do I want the newest Wii u or is the old version adequate. What else do indeed to get started. Thanks.

Feel free to put other gift as here

Re: santa 2012

The new Wii looks pricey?......over $400 with certain options

We have this one

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Console-Sup ... mario+bros

good value and under $200......great fun too....you'll probably end up getting the nanchuks.....more money...games are expensive......

Re: santa 2012

I haven't been paying attention much. the gaming seems to make it to the back burner of the secondary stove in my list of hobbies, but generally you want the Wii U, which does look pretty cool. I don't know if the new games will ultimately work on the old system, so if he's going to want any of the games that come out in the next couple of years..

Also, how old is he? Good chance he's not going to be "fooled" into liking the old one if he's old enough to know the difference and all his friends have the new exciting one.

Re: santa 2012

I'm excited by the WiiU, but I'd bet there are probably sweet deals on the old Wii right now. Probably better to start there. We've had the Wii for five years, and MW loves it. We play at least 3-4 nights a week after we put MWette to bed; two enormous thumbs up to the entire spectrum of Lego games (Harry Potter and Star Wars are both winners, and we got Batman 2 out of the library this weekend and we're enjoying that too). The Mario games are of course excellent too, and it's taken some time for him to get the handle on the controls, but he's getting better fast. I'm a huge Zelda fan as well; both Zelda games were amazing.

You'll need a second controller, and then two nunchuks, to play most games, so that factors into the price too.

Yeah, I was thinking that Lil Bucket is older and might know what's what in the gaming world....

Speaking of Nintendo , we are taking Lorcan to the store Saturday to get the 3DS XL with Super Mario Bros. 2 for his birthday.....he saw it and played with it at a Mets game this summer, they had a tent set up.....it looked cool actually.....

for Xmas then we will probably get some games for it.....

For Xmas I want a new Chomebook.

Thanks for the advice. The price of the new one really is a turnoff, games are 2x the price too. Irish I thought you got Google shit for free.

I also have a Chromebook, and I love it. It's a great little portable device.

Irish - do you know whether the new Chromies have USB inputs? That's the only feature I'd really want in a new one.

Re: santa 2012

no, I meant I was googling to see what it has. verb, not noun.

how do you feel about the speed? I assume the $450 one is faster, but is that needed? I don't need 3G or anything, I can trick my phone into being a WiFi hot spot if need be.

Re: santa 2012

Exactly , it's fast, hell the prototype they gave me is still fast and this has a newer processor( http://www.samsung.com/global/business/ ... wsId=12321 ).....the one I have has data connectivity , it came with two free years of Verizon data, I don;t think I ever used it beyond playing around with it....and like you I have the option of using my phone as a tether...but Wifi is so prevalent....plus, how ofter would you be using this outside your home?

Re: santa 2012

Any xboxers out there? Looking to get Little Solo the xbox360 for Christmas.
Local kids told me I need the 250gb console but not the Kinect. Geek Squad at Best Buy told me that was true, but that there were some advantages (ease of play, kinect only games) to the Kinect.
I probably should say that Little Solo is 9, and only has asked for Madden and NBA13 games.

Any suggestions?

The Samsung Chromebook I want and ordered a few weeks back is sold out everywhere and I have no idea when I will get it....I refuse to pay the mark up I am seeing on the few that are available through Amazon....

I'll say this about Google....they never seem ready when launching a product ......the Samsung Chromebook and Nexus 4 are examples....

on the Nexus at least, it requires both Samsung's and the phone carrier's input/bloatware. Part of the 'hands off' nature of the open source Android system. this is why it takes months to get OS updates after Google releases them.

Re: santa 2012

Not on the Nexus 4 as it is sold direct from Google ......pure Android...no bloatware from LG or the phone company, it's unlocked....it seems they didn't anticipate the demand for the phone. As for updates, I get them right away on my Samsung Nexus precisely because I bought straight from Google.....this is obviously true for the LG Nexus....

really? neat.

although I think it's the Nexus that my brother and law has been complaining about and vowing to go iOS next.

It's almost like Google experiments with things like chromebooks and whatnot to see how things should be done..and then abandons them. Didn't they have an ISP running somewhere for a couple of years too?

The your bro in law bought his from either Sprint or Verizon and not direct from the Play Store...the one like I got from the Play Store works only on AT&T or T-Mobile in the USA......and this is why I got away from carrier phones....they take forever with updates for various reasons....

good point on Google.....

presumably it cost you another $200 that way though no? given the '2 year we own you' bit from Verizon/etc?
