Custom designations

I just updated the rankings (with data provided by Frayed Knot) into the database that drives the forum. While doing so, I noticed that several members have passed the magical 11,000 post mark but have not yet chosen a custom designation. I just noticed this thread again. It seems that it didn't inspire anyone to choose a custom designation. I suggest you give it some consideration, lest you be randomly assigned someone like Lorinda deRoulet.

If you want, I guess you can do that. The original rule was that it had to be someone who was associated with the Mets, but not as a player. But I think we've ignored that rule at least once, so if you want to be Bill Pulsipher or Josh Thole or whoever, that's fine. If you do pick someone who played for the Mets, try not to pick anyone who's especially prominent. I don't think it would be in the spirit of this thing (whatever that spirit is) to pick David Wright, Mike Piazza, Matt Harvey, or anyone like that.

About four months ago, I made a custom Mets baseball card of Jimmie Walker that included the phrase "Dyn-o-mite", spelled just like that. Don't ask 'cause I'm not giving out any more details other than that it was part of a larger (now completed) project that didn't include Mike Vail.

One of the items on my to do list for the weekend is to think of a custom designation that somehow represents my Mets fandom, rather than be assigned one of the random designations. I am assuming that I can request to be any individual from Mets history, so long as they have not been claimed by another member.

Well, there's a one-in-three chance that you'll be randomly assigned to Howie Rose, Kevin Long, or Jeff Torborg this Tuesday unless you make a selection before then! And yes, you can pick anyone from Mets history. The original rule was that it had to be a non-player, but that rule has been overlooked in the past and can be again if you like.

The Jones thing gets an entry on Cleon's wikipage. I thought there was cocaine involved but it says the young lady had some weed but charges were dropped. Cleon is still married to his high school sweetheart after more than 50 years.

Actually, the traditional number of posts before you're eligible for the custom designation is 11,000. (You stay at the Tom Seaver level for 1,000 posts.) So hang in there and keep posting!
