I knew that, only because it was/is a very popular pub song in Ireland....

I've noticed recently that songs I first heard as commercials then go on to become big popular hits. I can think of three....Home ....Sam Adams song? ., Alicia Keys ‘Citibank’ Commercial "Girl on Fire" and The Lumineers Ho Hey song from the Bing commercial....

any others?

Dylan wrote a number of songs for other people to do first: The Mighty Quinn, You Ain't Going Nowhere (first done by the Byrds), This Wheels On Fire (first done by the Band) and a few others. Bob's done it in concert a few times, though not for many years.

Sheryl Crow's Mississippi came out before Dylan's, too.

That so many younger artists admired John Denver. OK. I think I probably did know that, but I couldn't figure out where else to put this. A new tribute album is out next week, and I have been looking forward to it since last year when Kathleen Edwards tweeted, or posted, about her participation. A lot of people I really like are on this record, and the clips I have heard sound just fine. JCL linked to a video for 'Annie's Song' in the Valentine's Day thread.
