Evie's Fears

While I was getting her concessions
Howard went to the mound again
I look up, Evie’s sighing
Says “They’re bringing Holman in”

Evie’s fears are coming true tonight
Evie fears that the rout is on with Holman in the spotlight

First guy singles on a curve too high
Next one lines a double into right
Another hit and Evie cries
It’s all over, not an out in sight

Evie’s tears I gently wipe from her eyes
Evie’s angry tears, blur her vision amid the stadium lights

Angry girl
You’ve been cursing
Holman between sips of ice cold beer
Ok, he walked another
You’re asking why he’s still out there
(acoustic guitar solo)
He walked another
Sacks are drunk and you wish you were

In the middle of Evie’s nightmare
Howard finally reappears
Pulls Holman and she is cheering
I wish I could disappear

Evie’s fears are coming true tonight
Evie’s worst case fears are taking place right before her eyes

Heartbroken girl
You’ve been praying
Looking up your face turned white with fear
“Oh no, now it’s Gorman
Games over, let’s get out of here”

Edited out my double posting of the song

Subject: Kenny Rogers
Date: October 19, 1999
Place: Turner Field, Atlanta
Situation: Bases loaded, one out

GROUNDED OUT

I’ll get him grounded out
A double play means out and out
He’ll hit the ball my way
Call it comebacker to home to first and
End of the Braves’ rally.

My pitches dance and sing
They’ll make Andruw Jones really swing
He’ll hit the ball my way
Call it comebacker to home to first and
End of the Braves’ rally

In and around the plate
First pitch comes in and it’s high
He stands there.
First pitch, ball one, big deal, I just overthrew
Next one he’ll be swinging, I’ll be laughing too
He’ll hit it right inside my glove you’ll see
I am telling you.

I will retire Andruw
His grinning mood will change to blue
Right when he tops that sphere
Call it comebacker to home to first and
End of the Braves’ rally.

In and around the plate
Next pitch comes in and it’s wide
He stands there
That pitch, ball two, real close, he was almost fooled
Next I’ll try the slider he’ll be swinging through
Then he’ll hit it in my glove you’ll see
I am telling you.

Among the chopping crowd I hear the fans make
Mock Indian sounds
Pratt and Dave Wallace come out for a
Visit to pitcher’s mound
Dave says to just throw strikes or else this game will
Spin out of hand
I’ve heard this all before did he think I’m
Too dumb to understand
Just ‘cause I’m from Georgia don’t mean
I don’t know how to pitch
He thinks he’s fancypants but I think he’s a
Son of a bitch.

I’ll get him grounded out
A double play means out and out
I’ll get him grounded out
A double play means out and out

In and around the plate
Next pitch comes in, it’s inside
He stands there
Ball three in the catcher’s glove
I am scared.

I hope he’s grounded out
A double play means out and out
He’ll hit the ball my way
Call it comebacker to home to first and
End of the Braves’ rally.

In and around the plate
Next pitch comes in and it’s wide
He stands there!
Now I’ve done it, series over, I’m so screwed
I’ll sign back with Texas where they call me “dude”
Then I’ll punch a cameraman, you’ll see
I am telling you.

Oh. My. God.
Mrs. Shot just reprimanded me for laughing too loud.

RD: Evie's Tears -- Freedy Johnston: Great song if someewhat obscure to non-fans

Sharpie: I won't say. 70s. FM rock-radio Classic, rhymes with "grounded Out"

Sharpie's is the only semi-final entry from the Q-104.3 list.

Top 50 I'll bet. Without looking, I'd guess: 36.

So it's "Crosby, Stills And Nash :: Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"?

#62. Not a bad guess.

I haven't voted yet. Rockin' Doc, there's a large bit of repeated material and I fear some of that was inadvertant. Please double check your post.

Just so folks don't have to go find the Q-104.3 thread, the song is "Roundabout" by Yes.

Damn, I somehow cut and pasted the song into the post twice. I wasn't happy with this effort, but I did not wish to hold up the proceedings any longer so I posted it and left. Not that it will matter in the end, but may I remove the duplicate sections?

sharpie

I don't object to Doc taking out duplicate part of the song.

You probably should.

I don't know who's in charge of granting such requests, but it seems to me that you should be allowed to remove the extra text.

Not a lot of parodies set during the brief Frank Howard era.

Epic.

The use of "Roundabout" is so audacious and inspired that I think the whole Parody contest should be stopped right now and Sharpie declared the winner. Plus, anyone who can get us to laught about Kenny Rogers exit performance as a Met deserves some kind of special prize.

Well, this was a major ass whippin'. Without a doubt, the best parody won this match up.

First I would like to congratulate sharpie on his fine work, not only in this round, but throughout this contest. I only wish I had offered up something more formidable, but I doubt it would have mattered in the final outcome. "Grounded Out" was ingenius.

I wish both sharpie and Yancey well in the finals.

Should Grover wish to interview me, I'll be drowning my wounded pride in the losers lounge.

Come on over Hottie - I've got plenty of Big Appletinis in the Lounge.

Congrats sharpie - well done!
