Matsui Trade Rumor Thread

From Yahoo Sports Rumor Mill:

Kazuo Matsui, 2b (Devil Rays) – It's no secret that the Mets have been disappointed with Matsui, who enters the final year of a three-year, $20.1 million deal in 2006. He hit just .255 with a .300 on-base percentage in 2005 and was regularly booed by Mets fans. According to the New York Post, New York has been in talks with Tampa Bay about a possible deal.

Huge obstacles exist, however. Matsui would have to waive a no-trade clause to accept the deal, and the Mets would have to swallow a good chunk of his salary to unload him.

What can we get if we offer Tampa the boobirds instead?

]09:13 AM EST- Buzz: Mets Pushing 2B Matsui, at Half Price
posted by Matthew Cerrone

According to the New York Post and the Daily News, the Mets best shot at moving 2B Kaz Matsui is with the Devil Rays…

Both reports suggest that the Rays will have to move SS Julio Lugo first…

…which will likely happen, it would seem…

Insiders have told the the Bergen Record and Daily News that the Mets are currently telling teams they will pay half of the $8 million owed to Matsui…

Because the Post and Daily News know these things.

An additional helping of pure speculation

Ted the bullpen janitor has been running his mouth again.

The only paper I trust less than Newsday is that Bergen Record that pops up now and again.

Ahhhhhhhhh, I feel better.

Anything that you DO trust?

Nah not really, not when unnamed sources are brought into play. Not a knock on you for posting that article, GYC. I post similar things too. I just hate unnamed sources, and my ire was piqued when a reporter mentioned that no reporter would dare use an anonymous quote to help to fabricate a trade rumor, then refused to respond when he was challenged on it and shown evidence to the contrarty.

Elster, don't insult real reporters by calling him one.

if tampa is looking to move Lugo, and are strangely willing to take Matsui + Cash, why can't we just get Lugo, instead of waiting for him to go somewhere else? He's a pretty good player, with some power and speed, and would fit right in at 2b.

Obviously, TB wouldn't trade him straight up for Matsui (+ cash), but how much more would it take? Diaz? Trax? A good but non-Milledge type prospect?

He is a real reporter. He uses unnamed sources and brags about his trips to baseball's winter meetings. Just like the guys in the Daily News!

Seriously, though, I don't have a major problem with Mr. Healey. I don't want to disparage him the way you seem to, Nymr. He comes off as a pompous ass when he talks about his connections, but I can be an ass myself.

The main problem I have is with the times when he goes on and on about reporters being unwilling to fudge facts or move quotes to support their positions...and how dreadfully insulting it is to him personally to insinuate such about one of his brethren. That's what I keep harping on. That and how he gets overly sensitive when someone is critical of what he posts (when he's posting them while asking for discussion and critique).

You seem to dislike the man. I don't dislike him, I dislike the (directly above) message. Just want to clarify that.
