The house I grew up in.

It's a nicer neighborhood than it looks like from space.

That's pretty cool. I stumbled onto a color one sometime back but the b&w
image is easier on the eyes. I was over a friends house the day I found the
link and I was telling his wife that everyone's street was on the internet and
she didn't believe me and bet me $10 I was full of it. Easy money.

I am in the long horizontal building on the first street from the top, on the left-hand side. The square white building just to the south marks the edge of our backyard. If you squint really hard you can see Skipper eating the grass.

I DO see her! She's waving her tail!

I couldn't figure out how to post an image of mine.

(Careful posting these, everybody, your real addresses may show up. Then I will put you on the Woolrich mailing list).

I tried, then uploaded the photo to my server.

I didn't realize you could search by address: I had fun trying to locate it by sight.

I guess the best I can do is post the link:

http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=10&X=1506&Y=22811&Z=18&W=1

The address is pretty generic on there anyway.
Mine is the house just north of the middle of the picture, with the
swimming pool out back

If you look up the the left hand corner you can see the ball field where my son played Little League. I could show you where I work, but I get dizzy looking for it

I lived there before there were zip codes.
I'll have to check a directory and get back to you.

EDIT: Here's the link

Hey, Yancy - when my wife and I moved back down to LI, we lived right across from the high school; right near your old 'hood.

That’s way too cool! I had no idea our pond was so triangle shaped. Our house is just north of the red dot.

Which high school? Hauppauge?

Question about Hauppauge. Is it pronounced Hop Hog?

ScarletKnight41
Dec 10 2005 10:50 PM

It's Howe (as in Art) - Pog

Yancy Street Gang

Cooby has it right: it's Hop Hog.

Yep. (Assuming I have that photo correctly.) We were in the apartment complex just southeast of the school.

Google Earth is pretty neat too, we were looking at it this morning. Our neighborhood is just a blur on it though, they don't seem to care too much about rural areas

You are able to zoom in much further using Google Earth. A little better than Terraserver if you use the Satellite feature on Google Maps.

MFS62 -
207th and Broadway...are those the train yards on the right of the photo? My dad worked in those yards for more than 20 years.

MFS62

Yes, there were MTA train yards down the hill (on the east side) from my house. Many of the folks who worked there used to go to a bar nearby on 211th street (IIRC). Many years later I later ended up working with a guy who's brother owned that bar.
Small world.

We were to the right of the red dot, three houses down, the one with the pool in the backyard (the circle in the square).

The childhood home of Willet's Point (34 miles from Shea Stadium) is near the center of the picture across the street from the big office building: http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=10&Z=18&X=3107&Y=22715&W=1

I noticed the date on there 3/31/1991. I was actually still living there then!
