... The New York Pro Baseball Scouts, who, as per Kevin Kernan and others, presented their Award for Sportswriting Excellence this year to Ken Davidoff...

... the Dick Young Award for Sportswriting Excellence. Which, y'know, just kind of fits perfectly.

Pathetic. I didn't even know he was with The Post until he pulled off that hatchet job on RA. If he's considered to be the best, that doesn't say much for the rest of them.

I think he was caught out pretty badly with his reasoning for keeping Piazza out of the HOF, his numbers just didn't add up did they?

Unpopularity for gratuitous Dickey-trashing, off-kilter Mike-appraising aside, I'm not sure what makes Davidoff worthy of an award, unless it's just one of those buddy-buddy, whose-turn-is-it? types of things.

On the other hand, somebody had the light on for Kenny Lofton.

He tried to sort it out with numbers and reason, and came up with a dispassionate answer. I disagree with his ballot, but I bet if everybody took such an approach, we'd be a lot happier with the overall results.

I don't see Davidoff being better than their own Mike Vaccaro, my personal favorite for fairness and range.
