Micah Owings

Former D-Backs pitching dude (went 8-0 in 2011) signs with the Nats --- as a firstbaseman.

Has gone .283 / .310 / .502 // .812 hitting as a pitcher, but has done some serious damage to his elbow. If he can learn how to take a pitch, he might be capable. Maybe that low isolated OBP may in part be a byproduct of the situations he's found himself in, though I suspect it's almost always a good idea for a pitcher to be restrained with the bat.

I guess this was mentioned somewhere already but Adam Loewen signed a minor league dealio with the Jays.

Re: Micah Owings

kind of funny that Davey Johnson is going to be his manager...Wouldn't be surprised to see Davey bring a LOOGY into an inning with a right hand hitter sandwiched in between a couple lefty hitters, moving the LOOGY to 1st base with Micah pitching to the 1 RH'd hitter of the inning...Based on how Davey handled Kevin Mitchell, this could be a real creative landing spot for Owings...

I would still like to have him. Great for those 14-inning games.

As would I...and with the addition of Owings; the Mets potentially could have had more Homeruns from a trio of former college pitchers (Owings, Ike, Harvey) than they will probably get from their entire Outfield...
