Numbers:

As expected, no 8, 24 or 31.

I approve of the 15 for d'Arnaud.

Re: Numbers for Camp

Josh Satin bumped from 3 into offensive tackle territory (76). That can't be a good sign.

Quintanilla goes from 6 to 3, while Byrd takes 6. Byrd has only worn numbers in the twenties in his big-league career.

Buck gets 44. The last catcher to wear 44 for the Mets was one of the first - Harry Chiti.

Feliciano back in 55. If he makes it he'll have worn 55-39-25-55.

Is Wheeler in 65 a strong hint that he'll be starting the season in Las Vegas (which everyone assumed anyway)?

Re: Numbers for Camp

Everybody knows 15 should be retired for Val Pascucci.

Re: Numbers for Camp

well, its not like they were going to retire 15 for either Grote or Beltran, so if its going to stay in circulation, i'm happy to see Grote's number go to their "next great catcher".

I think Beltran goes into the Hall as a Met. Therefore I think it should be retired. It's not complicated.

Re: Numbers for Camp

As much as I like Beltran -- and I do -- I think he's more likely to go into the Mets Hall than into the Hall as a Met.

He won't and it won't. It's also not complicated.

We'll see. He's also not done.

Re: Numbers for Camp

55 oWAR over parts of 15 seasons, HR total at 334 and counting (likely reaching Dick Allen/DiMaggio/Johnny Mize/Berra territory by season's end, and Larry Walker/Dale Murphy/Al Kaline territory the year afterward) and good-to-great defense for over a decade at a premium position. Beltran isn't that far off; 2-3 more years of 3-4 WAR performance, and he should have a very solid shot of getting in (especially once the current wave of '90s-'00s all-timers slough off the ballot, one way or the other).

In terms of actual-- not psychic-- club contribution, Beltran's number should be retired before Kid's, Mookie's, or Keith's.

Re: Numbers for Camp

Oh he could go the Hall of Fame for sure, but I'm not sure his "equity" will be with the Mets necessarily.

Numbers in the meantime are or ought to be retired for psychic club contributions, and he's just not gonna get there.
