Sexy INtrasquad Action

Legends on the mound today as Geren's Herons face Teufel's Truffles.

Gonzalez Germen, LaTroy Hawkins, Scott Rice, Collin McHugh, Elvin Ramirez, Greg Burke, Robert Carson, Brandon Lyon and Pedro Feliciano. LEGENDS! (But where's that serial comma after Brandon Lyon, huh, ESPN?)

I predict at least three guys finish the game in the trainer's room, and Rainy Lara gets bumped up to big league camp.

LaTroy Hawkins yields three-run, first-inning homer to Wilmer Flores . METS LOSE!

Wilmer Fores slugs three-run, first-inning homer off of LaTroy Hawkins. METS WIN!

Good news about Wilmer is better than good news about LaTroy, I'd say.

They could split time somewhere. (I'd say "platoon," but can you "platoon" no position?)

Re: Sexy INtrasquad Action

Ok, so "they" say Wilmer is too big, not agile enough, to play shortstop (and maybe also second base). But to have played short, you have to be a good judge of balls coming off the bat and you need a good, if not "plus" arm. Nobody has said he doesn't have those things. So, why not right field?

OK, so he's not fast. But I think his ability to judge batted balls and arm would help him become a more than an adequate right fielder.

Re: Sexy INtrasquad Action

I got this notion that Milwaukee, in sore need of a firstbaseman, would come calling for Murphy, freeing up second, but they don't seem to be a match --- no outfield parts or starting pitching to spare. I doubt they'd give him up for Gomez or Aoki.

I'm not sure what the quotes around "they" are meant to imply, but I'm certain the team has discussed and will continue to discuss the possibility of Flores as a corner outfielder.
