2013 IPP: Collin Cowgill

I keep wanting to think that his name is Clarence, probably because I conflate him with Clarabelle Cow.

with a good glove and decent speed, he'll be our 4th OFer, spelling each of our LHed starting OFers from time to time. I don't think he'll hit enough to play regularly, but i think that's true of our starting OF too, so he may get more ABs by default... and by "default" i mean da fault of our GM for not getting even one legit starting OFer. If he ends up in a platoon with Nieuwenheis, they could combine for the most Ks ever from the CF position.

And steals. But .270 sounds a little high. I'll say .255 -4-31. Later

If he could spell Nieuwenhuis, now that would be something.

He could replace Nieuwenhuis..

Don't know enough about this guy. I do know we need more of him.....

I hope that he delights us half as much as Z's GIF delights me.

Awesome!

He'll have a higher OPS than Duda, Niewenhuis, or Baxter, but won't see full-time AB's until July.

Wins a regular job, hits .285, drives in 68.

I'd be thrilled if provided what Joe McEwing did in 2001 (.283/.342/.449). I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up Joe McEwing's line from 2003 (.241/.309/.291). Anything's better than Joe McEwing in 2002 (.199/.242/.296).

This guy's been reminding me of Joe McEwing ever since the Mets got him. Which means I'm gonna hate him. Because like McEwing, he looks like he'll be the next super crappy scrub that the Mets hype to absurd levels. And it's happening already. How could you predict those numbers while simultaneously declaring Cowgill your new favorite Met?

I may be a little weird, but my "favorite Met" has rarely been one of their best players (other than the Jose Reyes years)...as a kid, Buddy Harrelson was my favorite Met, and statistically he was horrible...

Predict? I'd say I was wildly all over the map. Joe McEwing put up vastly inconsistent numbers from 2001-2003. But that didn't mean he wasn't my favorite player during that time while playing on some mediocre to bad teams. I like Collin's hustle. This team is going to be mediocre to bad. I'm hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst.

that is the Mets fan battle cry in most of the Mets seasons that I have endured...A little more accurate of a "Mets motto" than some of the corny ones like "The Magic is back" that the Mets have come up with over the years...

I like that he plays hard. I like that he's-- smartly (apparently)-- aggressive on the bases. I like that he might be part of solving two issues with this starting lineup/offense, for cheap. Maybe.

This pretty much applies to the whole team.

I wonder if working the phones for trading possibilities is part of Ricco's portfolio. The rest of the braintrust gives him parameters for possible deals, he spends three days making calls, brings them back the offers he's been able to hammer out, and they tell him he did it all wrong.
