This is really funny. Especially the banana one. I would love the chance to get specifics on that claim.

What was the world like before bananas?

In what way did the world change?

If bananas have always been around (which is my understanding), at what point did they start changing the world?

What spurred this initiative in bananas?

Are bananas done changing the world? Or are we still actively evolving?

I do agree that the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire changed America. Maybe we would have gotten there anyway, but it certainly jumpstarted the reform that was needed.

The problem is there is a LARGE amount of incompetence in many things, and snow plowing is certainly one of them. While some people certainly get overly entitled, there's usually plenty of blame to go around, no matter how much you love snow.

It's a freakin' weather forecast. Give us the review of today, tell us your best guess for tomorrow, and then show us the cute little graphic for the five-day. That should all take like 45 seconds, tops.
And while we're on the subject, include the wind speed & direction will ya? Saying it'll be south at 8mph, or 20 mph out of the northwest takes no time at all and makes a difference to bikers and many other watchers as well. The only thing worse than taking four minutes to do a 1 minute job is taking four minutes and then doing an incomplete job of it.

All I want to hear from the weather forecasters is for them to tell me:
What,
When,
Where, and
How much.

Then, If they want to spend the rest of their 4 minutes telling me why, let them do it on someone else's time.

Also, I've heard enough of, "first time, long time".

Actually I'm now into Mets minor league lefty Hamilton Bennett (Ham_Bone28) and his twitter WiFeY WannAbEE.

He's a sidearming relief prospect who apparently pitched for the Great Britain WBC team that didn't make it through to the tourney. She's an odd baseball WiFeY candidate in that she actually likes baseball (she's like a virulent White Sox fan). In fact I'm a little worried that she's only after Hambone because he's a ballplayer and may someday dump him for a higher draft pick.

They've been engaging in an awful lot of twitter kissy-faces and long-distance relationship pain, it's hard to watch.

She's like:
awwww baby I miss you so much! You're so amazing ~ I'd do anything to be with you too!

And she's also like:

What I've REALLY had enough of on this topic isn't the tourney itself (although I've always been pretty indifferent to it) it's the college hoops mediots and groupies who seem unable to talk about it without their worn-out cliches.
In short then, I am so done with the phrases: 'Big Dance', 'March Madness', 'Let the Madness Begin', 'Final Four', Elite Eight', 'Sweet Sixteen', 'Bracketology' (I started this thread with that one), Bracket Busters, 'Bubble Teams', 'Punch Your Ticket', 'Cinderella, 'Glass Slippers', and at least a half-dozen others I'm sure I'm leaving out here.

It's beyond just the quality the cliches these announcers are uttering, it's that they act as if it's in their contracts that they're required to use these phrases to the exclusion of all others, or that they're simply afraid that if they don't then the talking heads insider's club who hover around the sport will shun them for lack of conformity to the club rules.

They got a lot of heat for that.

yeah, it's like everyone thinks just because they have a social media account they have to weigh in on everything.

On the other hand, these types of things tend to invite commiserating and if you're an account about food, might as well try to keep it about food.

No. I can find think of absolutely no one that wants to know how I'm doing in my phone games. In fact, I can't see why anyone would want to announce to the world that they are fucking around at work.

I've grown tired of the flimsy small-talk nattering noise on social media in general. wishing everyone happy birthday, condolences, all of it. Three years from now all Facebook is going to be is a place where you log on once a day to wish everyone you've ever met who was born on that day a Happy Birthday.

Oddly enough, MFS62 gets miffed whenever there is a lack of flimsy small-talk nattering noise here on the CPF when his birthday rolls around...

Zynga started doing this on Scramble w/ friends on it's own (well, I'm sure I authorized it somehow, whatever.) and I only noticed because my victims commented on it.

Decent way to drum up other challengers though, to see which games you're playing together.

I get the place whence you're coming, squire.

But would you rather not wish anyone a happy birthday? Or be greeted on yours? Or, alternatively, field short phone calls from your 100 closest friends/relatives?

It's a fair point, plus Facebook reminds you. (hell, Google plus reminds me when I go to google.com if my friends are there, or really anyone in any of my circles which is beyond annoying, aside)

I'm a little bit antisocial and adverse to meaningless small talk in general actually. Just because we share an elevator together doesn't mean I want to talk about the weather with you. (The obvious exception being smalltalk about the Mets. ) I probably should just unfriend these people in general. I don't except to ever hang out with a coworker from 5 years ago, no matter how friendly we were the 7 months I was there. Is it really worth seeing her updates just to wish her a happy birthday once a year and occasionally chime in if she posts about something that interests me?

There's just so much noise on the internet. I already fear I have a legitimate problem spending too much worthless time doing meaningless crap (No, Ceetar, stop playing Tetris on Facebook you have a billion things you want to do!) sometimes I feel like a mindless drone. Wake up, organize fantasy rosters, check cranepoolforum, play your conquerclub games, wish everyone whose birthday it is a happy birthday on facebook. good, okay, now go to work. get to work, check Twitter/facebook/cpf/etc..does it ever end?

wow, that was rambling. see?

guilty.

When i was working in Jersey and drove for lunch my coworkers used to call me a New Yorker for never signalling.

My excuse is always that turn signals in NYC are often an invitation for the guy in the other lane to speed up and get in your way.

The constant 'Crawl' at the bottom of a screen for sporting events.
I don't think most people mind the occasional update, but a constant crawl is annoying, distracting, and usually tells you a bunch of shit that you either already know or don't care about (and likely both) and it tells you these things about 35 times an hour.
STOP IT!! I tuned in to watch a ballgame and you're providing me with a display which is designed to get me to NOT watch the ballgame. I don't care which borderline felon I've never heard of just got release by the fuckin' Philly Eagles and I'm not going to care during tomorrow's game when some other team picks him up.

Y'see, I don't mind of box telling me the score/situation OF THE GAME I'M WATCHING. What I object to is being fed a constant stream of scores and updates from games I'm NOT watching, from SPORTS I'm not watching, and from games that have been over for hours already.
They started this stuff to cater to addicted gamblers but, first of all, fuck them, and, secondly, in this age of getting scores over your phone or your toaster there's no reason why this shit has to be run like a stock ticker as if someone is going to yell SELL when some out of town team gets to 10 runs!

btw, I sent a (similarly worded) email to ESPN one time saying much of this same stuff and you get a form email back saying thank you for your contribution and we'll take your suggestions under advisement.
In other words: Fuck off kid, we'll do what we want.

Re: I've had just about enough of ...

I used to hate the crawl too, but I guess I'm just used to it at this point. I don't mind updates within the sport i'm watching, particularly if they're detailed, but it's rarely that and it needs to stop looping.(It's also nice in bars) But if it scrolled real updates like lead changes, home runs, etc? Might be more tolerable and a good way to get a feel for who's hitting on other teams. Also would be nice if it continued during commercials, good time to update on what's going on around the league. (Of course, then why do we need 17 'studio updates' during the broadcast to tell us this same stuff?)

During the current heatwave, people are saying "the rain (this weekend) will cool it off".
People have been saying that for years.
And its WRONG!
They've got it backwards.
The coming cool, dry, air will hit the hot, humid, air and cause the rain. Not the other way around.(Think condensation on the windows when you turn on the air conditioner in your car.)
