What to Eat at Citi Field - 2013

There's no reason to settle on a mediocre hot dog or $8 Bud Light at Citi Field — there are plenty of great options out there, if you know where to look. Try shrimp skewers from Esca's Dave Pasternack, Shack Burgers from Danny Meyer's now ubiquitous burger chain, pizza from mini-chain Two Boots, filet mignon sandwiches and more from star butcher Pat LaFrieda, sushi, Italian subs, smoked bologna sandwiches, and oh so much more.

Now, in honor of the first day of the 2013 baseball season, here's a guide to what to eat at Citi Field and where to find it.
Citi Field's Six Standouts

I usually opt for the turkey hero (with red peppers and marinated mushrooms) at Mama's of Corona from the Food Court that's above the rotunda.

Consistently reliable. I used to get Mamas' Subs at Shea but haven't tried 'em since the move to the new stadium. I'm still working my way through the new choices. Blue Smoke's Fried Bologna sandwich is my current Citi Field fave.

Re: Eat this.

Another year, another missed opportunity to open a second Shake Shack location. Possibly the single most needed customer service upgrade for Citi Field. It's baffling that the Mets and Union Square Hospitality can't work this out.

---
Mama's at Citi Field is just as good as Shea.

I grew quite fond of the Mex burger, although I wonder if they are going to raise the price again. It was worth the $10 they charged in 2011 but not more than that, particularly when you can get a Double-Shack for less.

That seems to bury the specifics of the new items. Here:

I'm aiming to try the beef brisket sandwich at Blue Smoke monday.

Re: Eat this.

The steak sandwich is now available on the Promenade level? Nice.

Speaking of Blue Smoke, my nephew just got a job at the restaurant, which is on 27th Street. He graduated from the Institute of Culinary Education, applied for an internship, and was hired full-time right away. Last I spoke with him he was only there a couple of weeks, but he liked the people and the job.
