I Can't Get This Song Out of My Head

I must've played it about as dozen times over the past two days and I'm tempted to go shopping for an oversized white sport jacket with shoulder padding.

Re: I Can't Get This Song Out of My Head

It could be worse, ever since I saw a cable docu-special on the Cowsills about two weeks ago I've had 'The Rain the Park & Other Things' floating through my cranium.
The one saving grace is that it's at least the version which closed out the film. The one below isn't that exact version but it's of similar vintage and, stripped of its overly heavy late-'60s production and with the more mature voices of the remaining 'Sills, it's decidedly less 'poppy' than the original. I mean, sure, it'll always remain a rather lightweight pop single but it at least takes on a bit of a 'hear it again for the first time' kind of quality to it.

Those may be two of the best song titles in pop history.

Neither title appears in the song's lyrics, which is a huge no-no to music publishers and record labels, who figured folks would walk into record stores, ask for those two great songs they heard on the radio yesterday --- "Still Waiting" and "I Love the Flower Girl" --- and walk out frustrated.

That's not a bad song to be stuck in your head. A fav of mine back in the day, when I'd hear it on the AM radio in my dads car. Don't think I got any Cowsills records then. I was too busy trying to talk the folks into buying me this stupid "Batman" album that I saw in the store. And even though I figured I'd dig the music, I really wanted it because the cover was so kool. May have played it a few times and ran around the house with my bat lunch bag cowl (I cut a hole for my chin and taped on paper bat ears) and my blanket cape. I was disappointed in the album because the theme, although very very close, was not the same exact one used in the show.

Not sure if that's the right album cover but its damn close. I thought it was by Nelson Riddle or Niel Hefti. I know its close cause the main reason I wanted the album was I wanted to draw that picture of them swinging in, which I did many many times.

Anyway, back to topic, that version of the Cowsill song is great and is really a lot like the original. I love that it will probably be stuck in my head all day. These days more than not the music that gets stuck in my head are commercial jingles that usually get on my nerves.

Can you believe that I bought "Remain In Light" on vinyl last week (along with two other TH vinyls). Vinyl I tell you! (the independent thinking, progressively politically orientated, counter-culture SoCal demographic, they appreciate it).

Probably because I heard its younger cousin on the drive to work this morning...

My enduring memory related to this song is that in 1983 I phoned it in as a request on my "progressive" college radio station and the DJ thought I was some kind of nut.

Condescending DJ: "Crosseyed and Painless? You sure that's a Talking Heads song?"
Me: "Yeah, um, it's one of their better known songs, I think."
CDJ: "What album is it on?"
Me: "There's a version of it on The Name of This Band is..."
CDJ: "Uh, OK, we'll look for it, but I don't think we'll have any luck."
...and as he hangs up on me, I can hear him laughing to himself, "Crosseyed and Painless, huh"?

Jagoff.

The Heads did create some challenges in their titling, with even people more or less familiar with them referring to songs by names such as "This Ain't No Party," "I've Come to Take You Home," and "Same as It Ever Was."

"Stop Making Sense" is the quintessential example of this, because it was also the name of an album.

This song is in my head, and I'm tempted to belt it out at inappropriate times.

I'm bitterly disappointed this song hasn't made an appearance in this thread yet.

I heard this song sitting in the back of a cab going home from work at 0:30am one night. It murdered my career in private practice.

Re: I Can't Get This Song Out of My Head

For some reason I have Supertramp's "The Logical Song" in my head this morning. I thought they may be good fodder for a desert island poll, but we've already done one. And look what song I voted for.
