This is gonna be a great . I'm so glad to hear Harvey , as opposed to giving the stock cliche answers, says he's excited and looking foward to this matchup. May the best man w....hmmm, be wearing orange and blue!

I really want to head out to Citi for this one, but I'm not feeling up to it. Torture myself to enjoy in person, or just relax at home? hmm.

Unless you're a masochist, you probably won't enjoy being tortured.

well I always enjoy being at Citi. It's just the trip around it that might end up being torturous.

Ron with a great little nugget about Tom Gorman and how he used to shake of Carter, they used to call him Gorfax because he liked to talk up his own game like he was Koufax, " ok Gary, this is for a fastball, this is the sign for a slider, yyybbb", "just throw it Tom,I'll catch it".

In If at First, Hernandez wrote that they called him Gorfax because he was as slow as Koufax was fast.

Not totally true. Strasburg was rare for a 1st round draft pick (and especially a 1/1 pick) in that he wasn't even drafted out of HS. Only after going to SD State did he make a commitment to get himself in shape and eventually blossomed into not only a top pick but probably one of the most ballyhooed picks of the last decade or more.

How many Met pitchers let themselves get distracted and rocked after the botched double play, but Harvey didn't even have the "mad at my teammates" facial expressions, he just bore down and got the job done.

I lost my internets during the 1st inning :(. And now it comes back on, and Harveys out. Thats all I wanted was to see him pitch tonight, and I was all excited about this matchup, lol. Life is so cruel sometimes. Kinda kool listening on the radio though. At least I could hear it.

Not sure I would have gone with Rice in this spot -- Werth leading off and Harper can pound LHPs as well as RH -- but the career minor leaguer gets the job done vs 2-3-4 in the order!!

Fairy had started one earlier. Better to merge than to have two and get confused. It's also better to burn out than it is to rust.

Matt Harvey, first pitcher in MLB to win four games. Also, gave up four hits tonight, which was the MOST he's given up in any start so far in 2013.

Edgy MD Apr 19 2013 08:12 PM Re: Back in the New York Groove! IGT 4/19/13 - Nationals @ |
Kinda crazy, but I got the notion that Citi Field was (finally) truly established tonight as the Mets' home, in a way that not even the no-hitter did.

Broadcast suggested the same. I don't know if I buy that necessarily, but it could be the idea that the buzz was what drew people to the park, not something that happened to those that happened to be there.
|
Edgy MD Apr 19 2013 08:31 PM Re: Back in the New York Groove! IGT 4/19/13 - Nationals @ |
A little of both is necessary, though. A buzz that brings a promise of an event and the team absolutely delivering on that promise.

Great game all around wannit? Couple-too-tree defensive plays, some clutch pitching and hitting, Ike and Doodoo destroying the ball, Harvey going all Seaver on their asses. Nats don't look very good! Part of it are those awful fat numerals on their jerseys. Jeez, guys, take a lesson form your forebears.

Watching on DVR, just getting through Harvey's tiptoe through the 7th... pretty rockin' crowd for a stadium that was half-empty. Almost Shea-like.
