This series offers a free ticket if your birthday falls on a non-game day, which mine does (being in March) so i'm gonna go for free..well, for the roundtrip cost of a 7train ride from Times Square anyway.

I should! except I don't own a bike. I could buy a bike and ride over there. I haven't ridden a bike in years, I'm sure the Midtown->Flushing route is a piece of cake right?

Actually, yes, there are good bike routes from the 59th Street Bridge that take you right to the ballpark.

I could be imagining it, but especially with relievers it seems like he tries to get them right out there. Not sure Juan will start, but I bet he's the first righty PH off the bench.

That's because he seems to use every relief pitcher in every game.

Yeah, relievers often come up because fresh arms are needed.

all callups are often because they're needed.

I don't have the time now to check on this, but I did look up Lutz, who was the first pinch hitter used on the day he was added to the roster.

Relievers are often called up because they are needed with immediate urgency. Backup outfielders are typically not.

Which is certainly different than getting them right out there.

Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets

It hasn't been confirmed that Lagares is being promoted; Adam Rubin can still end up with egg on his face. But if so, I'd question the idea of bringing up a guy who's thriving in AAA to sit on the bench in the big leagues, unless it's for a short stint. If he's considered a prospect (and I think he is) he should play. Duda has been doing well, so he should continue to play frequently, but Lagares should be able to steal enough time from Byrd, Cowgill, Nieuwenhuis, and Valdespin to play at least three out of every four games.

Nieuwenhuis was considered a prospect too and is now languishing. That's what comes from 6 outfielders, 5 of who are competing for jobs.

Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets

But there are more in-between steps for Nieuwenhuis. He didn't go from hitting .346 (and slugging .551) in AAA to sitting on the Mets bench. In the last year, he pretty much played his way out of a starting position. If Lagares were to come out of the Vegas outfield to sit on the New York bench, that would be a different thing, and a mistake, unless it's just for a short period.

Yeah, nice work by Atchison but I'm not quite sure that I saw the point in taking out Carson with just one out to go in the inning and the pitcher's spot due to lead off the next half.
Now both are spent and there's still four innings (or more) to get through.

One debate that hasn't even come up lately is the whole 'can Murph hack it at 2B?' question. That one has kind of quietly been answered in the affirmative.
I don't know that he'll ever be great there, but he's certainly been good enough and if this offensive start is going to be something like his norm than he'll be more than good enough.

OK, so it turns out Lagares was hitting for someone else and not Atchinson so my above point is less apt, but Carson had still retired 6 of 7 prior to being yanked and had 2-out and none-on.

Sure, he used injuries to curry favor with women. If he saw a girl he liked, he'd lean into a pitch and win her sympathy.

One time, he wasn't in the game, and wanted to make an impression so he fell down the dugout steps.

And... AJ Ellis puts a cherry on it.

He and Danson (I think) were talking about how Coach was known for being hit by pitches. I don't know if they were talking about a record, like 'in a game' or a season, but there was something about his last at bat. Don't remember exactly what was said but Ted says something to the effect the last pitch wasn't easy to get hit by, and Coach said, "Yea, I had to dive for that one."

This is the problem with all Met relievers (and about half their starters). Too many walks, too little execution.
