IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets

Kershaw vs Niese. My prediction? PAIN.

Ceetar Apr 22 2013 09:52 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
This series offers a free ticket if your birthday falls on a non-game day, which mine does (being in March) so i'm gonna go for free..well, for the roundtrip cost of a 7train ride from Times Square anyway.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2013 09:54 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
You should really stick it to The Man and ride your bike there.

I should! except I don't own a bike. I could buy a bike and ride over there. I haven't ridden a bike in years, I'm sure the Midtown->Flushing route is a piece of cake right?

Actually, yes, there are good bike routes from the 59th Street Bridge that take you right to the ballpark.

You could borrow Seo's bike.

no, he should come to the game too.
Ceetar Apr 23 2013 08:20 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
So perhaps Lagares' debut. (950?) Terry does like to throw guys right into the fire after all.
Edgy MD Apr 23 2013 08:28 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
Does he? I haven't really gleaned such a pattern from him.
Ceetar Apr 23 2013 08:40 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
I could be imagining it, but especially with relievers it seems like he tries to get them right out there. Not sure Juan will start, but I bet he's the first righty PH off the bench.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 23 2013 08:42 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
That's because he seems to use every relief pitcher in every game.
Edgy MD Apr 23 2013 08:51 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
Yeah, relievers often come up because fresh arms are needed.
Ceetar Apr 23 2013 09:01 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
all callups are often because they're needed. I don't have the time now to check on this, but I did look up Lutz, who was the first pinch hitter used on the day he was added to the roster.
Edgy MD Apr 23 2013 09:03 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
Relievers are often called up because they are needed with immediate urgency. Backup outfielders are typically not.
Edgy MD Apr 23 2013 09:05 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
Which is certainly different than getting them right out there.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 23 2013 09:23 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
It hasn't been confirmed that Lagares is being promoted; Adam Rubin can still end up with egg on his face. But if so, I'd question the idea of bringing up a guy who's thriving in AAA to sit on the bench in the big leagues, unless it's for a short stint. If he's considered a prospect (and I think he is) he should play. Duda has been doing well, so he should continue to play frequently, but Lagares should be able to steal enough time from Byrd, Cowgill, Nieuwenhuis, and Valdespin to play at least three out of every four games.
Ceetar Apr 23 2013 09:40 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
Nieuwenhuis was considered a prospect too and is now languishing. That's what comes from 6 outfielders, 5 of who are competing for jobs.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 23 2013 09:45 AM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
But there are more in-between steps for Nieuwenhuis. He didn't go from hitting .346 (and slugging .551) in AAA to sitting on the Mets bench. In the last year, he pretty much played his way out of a starting position. If Lagares were to come out of the Vegas outfield to sit on the New York bench, that would be a different thing, and a mistake, unless it's just for a short period.

3 walks in one inning Niese?

Sorry not to capitalize on the bases loaded, but how many two-run rallies begin with two outs, bases empty and a pitcher at the plate who has never batted in the big leagues?

Go put your head down and sit in the corner, Keith. You need a fifteen minute timeout.

PSA for our TV announcers, who seem dead set on murdering me via words: the jumpthrow existed before Derek Jeter, and will exist long after Jeter, who doesn't even do it so great.

That one curve ball almost paused before it snapped, like Kerhsaw does.

Atchison. Absolutely makes me think: "Everything's going to be OK. That's my dad they put into the game."

Murphy is playing some great baseball.
Frayed Knot Apr 23 2013 07:02 PM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
Yeah, nice work by Atchison but I'm not quite sure that I saw the point in taking out Carson with just one out to go in the inning and the pitcher's spot due to lead off the next half.
Fman99 Apr 23 2013 07:06 PM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |

Sorry to Niese's ankle for this prediction.

Frayed Knot Apr 23 2013 07:14 PM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |

One debate that hasn't even come up lately is the whole 'can Murph hack it at 2B?' question. That one has kind of quietly been answered in the affirmative. I don't know that he'll ever be great there, but he's certainly been good enough and if this offensive start is going to be something like his norm than he'll be more than good enough.
Frayed Knot Apr 23 2013 07:17 PM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
OK, so it turns out Lagares was hitting for someone else and not Atchinson so my above point is less apt, but Carson had still retired 6 of 7 prior to being yanked and had 2-out and none-on.

Coach once told a story about getting hit by pitches. Does anyone remember this? It was freakin hilarious. I only remember the last line and how much it cracked me up.

Edgy MD Apr 23 2013 08:11 PM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |

Sure, he used injuries to curry favor with women. If he saw a girl he liked, he'd lean into a pitch and win her sympathy. One time, he wasn't in the game, and wanted to make an impression so he fell down the dugout steps. And... AJ Ellis puts a cherry on it.
Zvon Apr 23 2013 08:17 PM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |

He and Danson (I think) were talking about how Coach was known for being hit by pitches. I don't know if they were talking about a record, like 'in a game' or a season, but there was something about his last at bat. Don't remember exactly what was said but Ted says something to the effect the last pitch wasn't easy to get hit by, and Coach said, "Yea, I had to dive for that one."
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2013 08:29 PM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
This is the problem with all Met relievers (and about half their starters). Too many walks, too little execution. I don't think Josh Edgy has got the LH hitting guy he was meant to get out all year.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2013 08:50 PM Re: IGT 4/23 Dodgas at Mets |
The 2 big moments in this one were when Kershaw froze Buck, and when Lyon walked Uribe.

You have to work to walk Juan Uribe.
