Re: IGT 4/24/10 LA@NYM: It's the Harvelous Harv Show!

There was another Harvey on the Honeymooners, the little boy that Alice was babysitting. Ralph thought that Harvey was an adult with whom Alice was having an affair. He yelled for Harvey to come out of his bedroom, and when he did, Harvey looked at Ralph in his raccoon cap and delivered the great line: "I didn't know Davey Crockett was so fat!"

Lots of very dated references, of course, but still pretty funny some 50 years after it was recorded.

It's been wondered in this forum before that GKR might lurk here, I don't doubt this after tonight....as Ron was going over Ted Lilly he called him by his full given name Theodore Roosevelt Lilly , a little while later Gary then brought that up and said it has nothing on Cal McLish who thanks to Swannie Gary knows his full given name is Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish.

Terry said he'd reevaluate the lineup after about three weeks. It's about that time and I think Duda should be batting third. His walks are being wasted.

I know I've posted this before, but...

My softball team, maybe 1992. We lose the first in a 2-of-3 playoff. Game 2, extra innings, we're the visitor. Leadoff triple. We walk the next two guys, bring our RF in to stand on top of second base. Next batter hits it to him on one hop. Perfect, right? Not so fast. He steps on second, throws to first - double play. As the winning run scores and our season ends.

When I came home from Shea after seeing my first Mets win in a very long time in 1981, I buzzed around the house all night because, ohmigod, I saw the Mets win. I was 18. It didn't take much.

I was the same way last night. It hadn't been long since I'd seen the Mets win at Citi Field -- it had been three days. And it wasn't the first time I'd seen the Mets win on a walkoff hit or home run or even grand slam (I was at the Kevin McReynolds game that was referenced in the aftermath of last night). But boy, something about last night...Jordany; Mattingly's overarranging of the infield; the effort to tie it; Harvey not getting stuck with a loss...I'm still buzzing.

Thirty-two years later, baseball makes time incidental.

This may have been before that time, I think he did it twice, but there was the Jeremy Reed game. At least Mattingly seemed to position them better. The Mets managed to get the grounder they wanted, but it was to Reed who they'd decided would come from the OF to play first place and he threw to the plate like an outfielder and it went wild..

I feel like I was at the game, but I'm not sure I was or if the frustration/pressure of the situation is making it feel that real.

Just needing a fly ball and getting a grand slam (as if it's commonplace) always feels a bit greedy. But it did burnish the moment more than a fly ball that fell behind Kemp would have.

Coaching third for the first extra-inning, walkoff grand slam by a Met since Tim Teufel was Tim Teufel.

I always like watching those deep flies just drop behind fielders dejectedly jogging off the field ignoring the ball. It's so opposite what they're supposed to do out there it makes me laugh.
