Not to be confused with Benjamin Franklin Pierce. To move this away from presidents and into just general famous people named for famous people territory; Martin Luther King was named for his father, but both their names at birth were Michael King. When the elder King, also a preacher, attended a world Baptist convention in Germany in 1934* he became enamored with the life story of 16th century father of the Protestant movement, Martin Luther. He soon began calling himself Martin Luther King and also altered the name of his then five year old son. * and what's the deal with a Baptist convention in Nazi-era Germany?
