Let's Do This.

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 09 2013 01:40 PM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
We're going to do this... righthanded.

Lets do that this.

Very righty heavy.

He's been hitting. that's justification enough at this point, even if you're going to ignore his reverse splits.

Ooh, nearly forgot the double-matchup. Screw all teams Pittsburgh!

So much for Terry saying (or at least implying) that Ike was going to get the starts against all these LHPs (3 of the next 4 games I believe) to see how he fared.
Edgy MD May 09 2013 03:03 PM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
They could have gone all righthanded by putting Recker at first and Turner at second.

The second-most arrogant Ump in baseball just cost the Mets a baserunner. Bite me, Joe West.
Zvon May 09 2013 05:46 PM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
Shit. Turner was safe, called out trying to stretch a single to a double. Too close to complain, and a bad gamble.

That wasn't a horrendously bad call. And its possible Turner lost contact with the bag for a milisec (his first toe touch beat the tag, which was high). Not defending West. Just sayin.
Edgy MD May 09 2013 06:01 PM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
This Pitty team likes to run the bases.
bmfc1 May 09 2013 06:01 PM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
No, it wasn't Angel Hernandez bad but it was wrong and Joe West is paid to get the call right. I'm sick of hearing about "the human element" and how it's "part of the game." If they don't do their job right, fire them. The Mets are bad enough on their own without Joe West and Tim McLelland hurting them.

My first memory of Mark Malancon was from back when he was a Yanqui farmhand and Suzyn Waldman was telling everyone how great he was going to be. She of course knew that because the Yanquis had told her so even though she was passing it off as if it was her independent opinion.

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 10 2013 07:39 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
That's why you all have to drop what you're doing and join me on the Lagares Bandwagon. Unless or until his hitting is sustainably atrocious (talking 75-100 more ABs), he's got to be, with apologies to Jordany Valdespin, the Man Right Now.
Ceetar May 10 2013 07:45 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
Duda, Lagares, Baxter, mix in Brown and Byrd as needed, dump Valdespin for Satin.
Edgy MD May 10 2013 08:44 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
I'm in no hurry to dump Valdespin for Satin.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 10 2013 08:46 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
Yeah, crazy to dump Valdespin for Satin, we don;t need another RH hitter and besides Muffy looks like he could use a blow at 2B.
Ceetar May 10 2013 08:55 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
I don't like Jordany as an infielder and I don't like Turner as the 4-position backup either. Satin is hitting, but sure, grab a lefty.
Frayed Knot May 10 2013 10:57 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
Neither do I full-time, but no one is asking him to be full-time there.
As long as he's hitting .350 (.378 actually) I like my Turner anywhere I can get him. Five positions, btw, including LF the other night.
Brown was hitting when we called him up too, as was Lagares.
Edgy MD May 10 2013 11:04 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
I imagine if Satin was bouncing around the diamond for the Mets, you wouldn't like him at any of those positions either.
Ceetar May 10 2013 11:24 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
My point is I'm tired of carrying extra bad outfielders and want a second backup infielder. I'd prefer a lefty and a MI, but we don't really have that.
Edgy MD May 10 2013 11:30 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
And my point is that, as tired as you may be, Satin probably isn't much of an improvement on Valdespin as the second backup infielder, seeing as they've been burying him at first most of the last two years.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 10 2013 11:45 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
I'd add that's it's way too soon to dismiss Lagares and Brown as "bad outfielders" and Jordany for all his whackiness has a lot of ability, that's plain to see.
Swan Swan H May 10 2013 11:56 AM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
Valdespin has played nearly as many games at 2B as Satin during their minor league careers, with a significantly higher range factor. Valdy has also played over 140 games at SS, to 2 for Satin. And, he's a lefthanded hitter. Hey, I think I found your lefty MI.
Ceetar May 10 2013 12:07 PM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
That's fine, but you don't need both of them, and no matter if they're burying Satin or not, he's hit more than enough in AAA to be given a legitimate shot too( yes yes, he's 28 and no longer a prospect). Lagares has barely played there. But that's the OF thing.
Benjamin Grimm May 10 2013 12:14 PM Re: Buccos at NY (N) igt 5/9/13 |
I agree with Johnny. Let Lagares play for a while. The Mets will have at least two outfield positions to fill for 2014, and we might as well use 2013 as a laboratory to figure out what the internal options are. Marlon Byrd isn't at all likely to be a starting outfielder on the next Mets contending team even if, as hoped, that happens as soon as next year.

You really threw it all in there.

And Marlon Byrd probably STILL isn't part of it.

We keep changing issues here. Who is being lobbied for now?

A more logically selected roster that features two backup infielders and better overall coverage and less redundancy in the outfield. Baxter and Duda stay. Ditch someone else. You don't need four other guys, particularly 3 right-handed guys. I'd keep Juan and Andrew and Jordany, but no one has a strong case for deserving to stay. Satin seems to be the only infielder in AAA hitting. Maybe you promote Flores, he's certainly got tools right?
