Re: IGT 5/17 Matt Harvey at Cubs

Murphy swung the bat well yesterday...I normally like a fast guy leadoff, but that is in short supply on this team anyhow...so I say:

Bat Murphy leadoff today...

On Murphy's career when "leading off an inning":
.297 average; .348 OBP; .511 slugging percentage; .859 OPS;
10 HRs; 4 triples; 31 doubles; 165 "Total bases" in 348 Plate Appearances;

This season when "leading off an inning":
.292 average; .393 OBP; .583 slugging percentage; .976 OPS;

plus, he's one of the few guys on the team that can hit both LHP and RHP almost equally well...

What they really need is Murphy leading off an inning with runners on base. Then they'd be all set.

what they really need is (since they have no speed merchants), 4 Daniel Murphy's and 4 David Wright's in the batting order...not a ton of power but good OPS throughout the order...

The ac'chul lineup, which looks an awful lot like a 'K,' appropriately enough for a Harvey start:

Valdespin – RF
Murphy – 2B
Wright – 3B
Davis – 1B
Duda – LF
Buck – C
Ankiel – CF
Tejada – SS
Harvey – RHP

I swear that last season, MLB Network would have a day game telecast virtually every week day (M-F)...this year, I haven't seen them doing that, other than during spring training...What is the point in them making this network, to have basically the same thing as "Baseball Tonight" retelecast 24 hours a day?

Is it just my perception or...is this the first time in a very long time that Terry has used the same lineup in the game that followed an actual win?

Its a good sign that in an interview Jordany said he is still young and makes mistakes and is trying to learn the right way to do things.

If the Mets were ever up 7-0 during Kingman's tenure, he surely had something to do with it.

Re: IGT 5/17 Matt Harvey at Cubs

Depends on how we describe bump. That spectacularly efficient seventh not only made me look the ass, but puts him a real good position to take a crack at finishing the eight.

Two-out ground single = not a bump.

One-out seven pitch walk = bump.

Re: IGT 5/17 Matt Harvey at Cubs

Now you're being silly. Firstly, you're probably thinking of Tim Leary. The record shows that Wilson went down mid season after an early June start at Atlanta. His lone appearance in Chicago, he pitched a 10 strikeout complete game.

Secondly, while rain threatened, it's been perfectly temperate in Chicago.

You don't really read out-of-town weather forecasts in order to reference scarcely relevant Met history in worrying what can go wrong, do you?

Re: IGT 5/17 Matt Harvey at Cubs

Mets appealing Harvey earned run
By Adam Rubin | ESPNNewYork.com

CHICAGO -- The Mets are appealing to Major League Baseball to slice Matt Harvey's ERA from 1.55 to 1.41, which would be within one point of the major league lead shared Clayton Kershaw and Shelby Miller.

The thrust of the argument is that there should have been a straight error on Ruben Tejada's throw that bounced past Ike Davis and allowed Anthony Rizzo to score from second base in the first inning Friday. Instead, Alfonso Soriano was awarded an infield hit. There also was an E-6 charged for allowing Rizzo to score from second base.

In essence, official scorers are asked to reconstruct what would have happened had a previous error not been committed.

The infield-hit designation meant there should have been only one out, in the scorer's estimation, when ensuing batter Nate Schierholtz sent a line drive to center field.

Had there been a straight E-6 designation, Schierholtz's subsequent lineout to Rick Ankiel would have been the third out of the reconstructed inning and Rizzo would have been stranded at third base -- making Rizzo's run unearned.

Even with the infield-hit designation, which meant there should have been only one with Rizzo at third base leading into Schierholtz's lineout to center, Harvey got an unfavorable ruling. The scorer decided Rizzo -- had he been at third base and not scored on the error -- would have then come home on Schierholtz's liner to Ankiel as a sacrifice fly.

Would Rizzo probably have scored on the shallow lineout to the strong-armed Ankiel? Probably not. But the scorer deemed otherwise.
