Kicking it 1981 Style

The pre-game show to the last game of the 1981 World Series. It would be the last WS game the Yankees would play for 15 years (and it should have been longer). Great Oprahicious interviews by Howard Cosell (the subjects were clearly coached on whichquestions were coming), with great hair and fashion and concussion drama.

OK, you don't like ASG pre-game shows? That's OK. But I'll bet you'll like this one, referencing this day in 1976.

It starts off with Bill Lee promoting his self-promoting 1984 memoir, The Wrong Stuff, and it's good stuff, as far as quasi-sports TV journalism goes for 1984 on video. But about the halfway point, they switch to a clip of the absolutely vicious 1976 brawl (THIS DAY in 1976) between the Yankees and Red Sox that led to the separation of Lee's shoulder and probably is the moment in time when the fan culture of the Yankees and Red Sox switched from "rivalry" to "most bloody and intensely hateful rivalry in US sports." If a team reflects the personality of its manager, this is the Yankees as 25 young, athletic imprints of Billy Martin. Fucking POW!
