Re: One more time waster

I got about half that.

Murder to be dropped down in the desert without any but sand and barren trees --- no cars, no people, no architecture --- leaving me to guess between North Africa and Australia. I was right that it was one of those, but wrong about which one.

Did pretty well up until then. Got the right continent and once or twice the right country..

Re: One more time waster

Mistook New Zealand for Vancouver, and Portugal for Nova Scotia. Other than that I am right there.

It took a few tries but I got 13K. Looks as though you can drive till you see a sign in most places.

Me wife and I just got 11,380. Got within 35 miles of a Nova Scotia spot. But went for Senegal on what turned out to be West Australia.

Yeah, there should be a time limit. Otherwise, just find a license plate and zoom in. (Not quite, but...)

Re: One more time waster

the toughest one i got was - i was plopped down into a high-res panoramic shot of the front of a hotel in a tropical llocale. no signs, no cars, nothing. just the hotel and the driveway leading up to it.

then ocasionally you get dropped onto a long desolate stretch of highway, with nothing but forest. is it canada? is it russia? and if it is, does htat really narrow it down at all?

Re: One more time waster

And you sit there, clueless about your surroundings, how you got there, what kind of people might be around, and you wonder... am I about to get my ass kicked in?

bam, 24,581.

i got lucky a bit. norway was tough, but it looked very scandanavian. finally i saw a flag, and picked hte rugged coast. i then zoomed in on the right brazilian city on the coast and was able to pinpoint the exact spot. in canada, i was dropped right next to a national park-looking thing, and in tasmania, the word tasmania was used, so it was a matter of matching geography. croatia was tough, but i was on a highway with road signs. just had to zoom around until the city names matched up good with the highways.

Re: One more time waster

10,497 on my first try. Got three of them very closely (Italy, Norway, western Canada). Had one with an Amtrak station that looked "Pacific Northwest" to me, but second-guessed myself and put it in Pittsburgh. Turned out to be western Montana.

This is cool; tried to do it just panning left and right, but I'll add the driving around to see if it makes it easier.

Just got 7250 points guessing on the original image without moving/rotating at all. Not bad.

11208 for my first try. Everything seemed to be in the same country or adjacent country at least until my last guess where I mistook Norway for Ireland.

You da man (and that's one long URL).

I'm finding Brazil to be the easiest country. If signs are in Portuguese and the country looks too beat up to be Portugal, it's Brazil. And they seem to like their signs. Usually, you can find a sign that tells you what state you're in, and the guessing map does go to the level of Brazilian states. When I got my high score, I nailed a spot in Fortaleza within 1.7km.

Otherwise, I've been hovering around 10,000.

My best score yet, 17,587. Got the town right on 2 of 5 and the right country for all of them. It's all about the signs.

The title text for that comic is funny too.

I'm not sure if you can get Epcot, but my friend just got LegoLand. He guessed California but it was the one in Denmark. Meanwhile, I'm rapidly becoming a connoisseur of unmarked dirt roads over flat, barren landscapes.

Topped it again, 23,983. Found four down to the town and correctly guessed the last one to be somewhere on the Mexican Pacific coast.
