Anniversary Action

On this day, eight years ago, an inside-the-park homer tied it, an outside-the-park homer won it, and --- too often forgotten --- a great catch by Beltran put the team in a position for those to matter. All executed for the love and devotion of Willie Randolph.

Special IGT guests include old timey Crane Poolios abogdan, Rottblatt, martin, Methead, and Iubitul.

I think we're 0-for-85 otherwise.

Your joke of eight years ago, but after the other night, let us never joke of this again.

And on this day, Edgy MD will go over the 60,000 post level. If this joint gave out Green Stamps you'd be able to get the waffle iron and matching four-slice toaster for sure.

Re: Anniversary Action

Game Of the year I thought while I was high on Cliff.

Eight years ago I knew who Danny Graves was. Now, even after looking him up, I have no recollection of him.

I think that ten years ago, if we had played "Met? Or not a Met?" I would have had close to a 100 per cent score, even with 1960s players who were before my time. Now, I know I wouldn't do nearly that well.

Re: Anniversary Action

I remember he was going to resurrect his career in NY, born in Vietnam....had maybe a few good outings.

Re: Anniversary Action

Born in Vietnam to US serviceman and Vietnamese national, had a good career in Cincinnati where he served as closer for a bit, fell to the wayside through injury or entropy, tried to come back with the Mets and failed.

Wore a shell necklace, something of a mullet, and was seemingly out of shape. Gave us some early Wifey Watch drama, as he married (if I recall correctly) the older sister of one his high school buds, and adopted the four kids from her previous marriage/marriages/relationships/not sure. May have been a health drama with one of those kids too.

Re: Anniversary Action

It was one of those half-solution type guys, like Rick Ankiel. Not worth it to move heaven and earth for an extra bullpen arm, so here's a guy who used to do it and maybe he still can. He was quite bad IIRC.

That's funny that you mention Ankiel, because midway through the 2017 season, I'm sure I'm going to post "Rick Ankiel was a Met?!?" at some point.

Re: Anniversary Action

I recall Graves' tenure in Cincinnati ended on an ugly note when he responded to bigoted/racist taunts when walking off the field after a poor outing.

Same here. I can go all the way back to the '60's and even visualize players I've never personally seen play live for the Mets -- like Jim Bethke, Larry Stahl and Dennis Musgraves, for example. But I'm getting fuzzy on those fringe and cup of coffee Mets from just a few years ago. Like Taylor Buccholz and Jon Switzer, to name two.

Re: Anniversary Action

Switzer was a short-lived LOOGy --- may have even been swapped out for Tim Hamulack.

Buchholz, I think, was a reliever (Former BoSock?) who made the team out of camp and instantly came up injured. Maybe used PEDs during his rehab, I think.

Re: Anniversary Action

Checking the record... it wasn't injuries or dope that plagued his year with the Mets, but clinical depression.

Re: Anniversary Action

Record also seems to suggest that Jon Switzer got called up corresponding to John Maine's pathological liar outing getting him DL'd.

Wait, Rick Ankiel was once a Met?!?!?
