Marathon Man

I know that many of you avoid the running thread, but this was a major accomplishment in my life, at age 40, I ran my first marathon. I finished it in 3 hours, 44 minutes and 42 seconds for an average pace of 8:34 per mile, and finished 1415th of 4922 finishers. It was the culmination of four months of training and my wife and son were there to see me at the finish line.

So the Yankees and Red Sox could've played 7 innings in the time it took to finish a marathon? Impressive. congrats.

I didn't, really, because I had found a training plan that I felt prepared me properly.

I also did one practice run of 22.9 miles in length, and ran it well, four weeks before the race, and it gave me the confidence I needed to know that I could run the full distance.

Once I knew that, and also knew from the forecast that the conditions were not going to be excessively warm or rainy, I felt like I had done all I could to be ready and succeed.

Great job Fman. I'd thought you were a marathon-running regular. That looks a terrific finishing time. Hope the shingles are healing.

Great job, Fman. I just can't imagine running that far. I can remember when you were just starting to train a few years back. You have come a long way and you should be proud of all that you have accomplished.

Thanks Doc. I was pleased not just to complete the distance but to do it faster than even I thought realistically possible. I had help from pleasant weather, good company in the form of two friends to run the first 18-19 miles with, and several months of increased miles needed to be properly trained for it.
