Roadtrip: Mets @ Braves 6/17/13

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 17 2013 12:27 PM

This evening begins the lengthy summer road trip hot streak that brings the Mets improbably roaring to life again.

Gee v. Hudson, 7:10.

Be there.

Dillon Gee's last three games, pitching for his professional life, in a situation that could demoralize a mutant hybrid of Shirley Temple and Knute Rockne.

Wow. Moving Duda to first earlier than I would have thought. I didn't think they'd do that until they totally gave up on Ike. Now this is interesting.

As painful as it was I still think he needs more time at second to be properly judged. But if that's all the time Collins has for that experiment then so be it. I imagine that Terry is also being judged and he needs to win games.

It's not his 2B play that's being judged as wanting here, it's his hitting.

I understand that. I said a while back that we should take an extended look at him. I was thinking in the outfield, but whatever. See what he can do with some regular playing time at one position. And his lack of hitting is the hard part to sit thru. For the most part he has played an adequate second base.

I'm not sure that a weeks worth of games is enough of a look. Not complaining. There are a number of ways this team can go now. If they want to give players a shot at showing what they can do, give them fair shots.

I'm okay with todays line-up because I think we have to field our best team vs the Braves, and right now, this is it. Maybe they can pick up the Jordany experiment down the line.

They can't bump Harvey tomorrow (cause he's their best weapon), and they can't bump Wheeler (because half his hometown is planning to be there and that's just bad form), but Gee's a hot hand and you don't want to skip him either. If they have a double header on Wednesday, then I guess Gee and Marcum go then. Else, you probably gotta bump Marcum, right?

Numbers skewed by his earlier starts where he was still getting up to snuff, and mostly small sample stuff.

It's a sticky situation though, because I bet Terry uses Parnell in a normal situation, and while you're supposed to manage for the game you're playing and all, tomorrow IS going to be rough with two games and a rookie starter (potential or not, rookie starter). Of course, Parnell does not give up home runs.

They were Dillon Gee's career splits.
If you were to look at this year alone, you'd be correct in saying that it's a small sample, but you'd also have to say they're actually horrendous
over 76 pitches 1.096 OPS against
left handed hitters .912 OPS against.
