Double-double-single. 1 in, 2 on, 0 out for the Phils.

Brown did not score on the single? Wow. Two doubles and a single makes it 0-1 against.

Ugh. I thought we had that DP.
0-2

Embarrassing. Because I'll have to talk with local Phil fans/friends the Mets have the unique ability to be able to embarrass me in this series.

The ground rules at CBP state:

OUTFIELD AREA

Left Field:
Over the fence and in plantings: Home Run.

Looks like the right call.

Wright makes it moot with an RBI single.

Ronnie also said it has to clear that meshy fence on top. They should paint the top bar of the meshy thing yellow. Is that thing there just to save the plants?

Damn, A mix of a fast Rollins and a slow Duda equals end of inning.

Wrights RBI single makes it 1-3.

EY with the 2-RBI single to tie it up. Murph follows with a single, and Wright can put 'em in the lead.

BIG 2 RBI single from Young. And Young goes 1st to 3rd on a soft single by Muffy. Hey, I'm seeing good baseball.

All season. I don't think our MI are particularly rangy (nor is David necessarily) plus Duda now isn't either.

Exciting baseball! Lagares doubles in the gap and Duda scores from first. Nice slide by Lucas. He just made it.

oe: I was not paying attention while Hef was up. Lags was not thrown out stealing? I could hear the booth but not see the action.

4-3 Mets

The thing about Duda at first, he can make up for his bad hands by being so close to the base he gets another chance.

That would be 21/45, or a .467 slugging percentage and an .800 OPS. For reference, Duda's OPS is .793

It seems like he's starting to get it.

Whats with that? he did a BIG safe wave, and as the throw is going to first he punches him out. How can you even do that?

I have no idea what to make of that call (callS really) at 2nd. I'd be throwing things around the room right now if that turned out to make a difference in the game, and it quite easily could have.

Lagares was the star of the game both offensively and defensively.

Three more not just scoreless but hitless innings for the NYM Pen.

If anyone learns any details, like in the post game show or press , please let me know what the hell happened there. The guy had to have some kind of reason to reverse that. A reason that can be seen or at least understood.

It's not that I don't agree with that assessment...but, when my kids were in fast pitch softball, I would occasionally get suckered into being the Homeplate umpire...it looks so freaking easy from where the parents sit; but it's a bitch to call balls/strikes (especially in f/p softball because the ball has so much movement and it's moving fast with the pitcher about 30 feet from homeplate)...we had this one kid's parent that would stand behind the backstop and tell the ump every "mistake" that he called when his daughter was at bat...

I've umped. I know it can be a bitch. And there are assholes like that parent everywhere. That's amature ball.
What I'm saying is that its the major leagues. The guys with that gig should be the cream of the crop. The best in the business. How do these guys who are just so bad get to this level?

I think the Phillies announcers may be the least informed about the Mets (and, I assume, other Phillies opponents) than any other crew.

Agreed. I've been asked to ump my son's little league games and it is easily the most stressful thing you can do on a baseball field. As a player/fan/coach/parent I think I have a pretty good idea of what the right call is. The minute you're asked to be the decision maker the ability to make this distinction magically disappears (at least for me).

One game I was asked to ump was particularly bad. In a league where even catching the ball is rare, there were about seven or eight bang-bang plays, including one to end a one-run game. On some of them, I was just blindly guessing. Afterwards I asked a buddy of mine (whose son is on the same team) if I was anywhere near right. He said I was a great ump, spreading my blown calls evenly over both sides.

Re: IGT 6/21/13 - NYM @ PHI - Smoked Hamels

They spent a few minutes going over the reverse call on Baseball Tonight last night. They showed it, said it was odd, showed it from a bunch of angles, wondered why the ump did what he did, and then moved on. No interest in talking to a manager,a player, maybe even the ump himself to clarify things.

And they opened the show going over Showalters tossing and the bad call involved with that. Seemed like a perfect time to talk about both. I love how Buck turned around and tossed all the umps.
