I think it's neat sometimes, particularly when you get a splash of color (like Mets fans in Orange in a section at Yankee Stadium) but The White Sox even mentioning Black seems wrong.

This might have been a good day to start Young at second, and get Lutz and Brown both in the lineup rather than have Valdespin face Sale. Lefties have a .615 OPS against Greg Burke. Lefties have a .732 OPS against Josh Edgin.

This might have been a good day to start Young at second, and get Lutz and Brown both in the lineup rather than have Valdespin face Sale. My theory is that managers tend to be former marginal infielders, and while they are quick to assume that any infielder that can play the outfield, they tend not to trust hybrid outfielders-who-are-part-time-infielders in the infield, unless they gotta. Nor do they quickly trust former infielders who've been playing outfield, or even guys who were virtually exclusive infielders in the minors, but in a pinch, debuted in the outfield at the major league level. They had nothing recommending them as ballplayers except their modest ability to play second, and a big chunk of their self-image is predicated on maintaining the notion that this was and is a rare and precious skill, and a charge that you don't just trust anybody with. Terry Collins, Jerry Manuel, Willie Randolph, Art Howe, Bobby Valentine --- the last five managers were infielders, mostly with secondbase as the largest part of their portfolio. It's a natural impulse to not let fakirs play their position.

Shame we lost this one. Really came down to dumb stuff like the stolen bases and wild pitch against Wheeler. WE know by now Terry isn't going to go with Bobby Pee tied on the road. That said, gutsy job by Terry/Hawkins to get the guy to pop up, I really thought they bullied their way through that mess together. Oh well. White Sox aren't very good, looks to me. I mean, Sale was some kind of awesome skinny dude, but geez, the rest of them aren't anything.

Yeah Sox look as bad as the Mets......similar record. I thought it was very interesting in the early goings to hear Ron and Gary talk about how Wheeler was pitching very differently in this game then in his debut. Ron ripped it, all the off-speed stuff Wheeler was throwing, why change what was successful?makes no sense he said and it did Wheeler a disservice .....Gary then jumped in with " they did the same thing to Harvey last year". So, that comes from the front office or is Wharten thinking for himself? Assuming it is true btw.

Not a lot of heat in the AL kitchen that year. Early Wynn was third in strikeouts and he was Fox's teammate, thus didn't knock him down as if he were his own mother.
