Knowing that there are several here that are interested in such things -- they have announced a reunion and shows in Toronto, Chicago and Denver, at the "Riot Fest."

Re: Replacements

Paul in 2005:
"I think Tommy wants to get together again and play. I don't know if we could call it the Replacements if it was just me and him and two other guys. I'd be a liar if I said I wouldn't enjoy the adulation. But we were always the exception to the rule when it came to the way things were done. And I'd like to see us maintain that mystique. There's the great problem of us getting back together and sucking the bag, and ruining the reputation forever. Maybe we should just sit tight and let people think we were great. We were about youth and rebellion and fun and wildness, and all the things that don't necessarily sit well as we get older. We were never big jammers or played long, slow music that would make sense to revisit now that we're all better musicians. So I wouldn't look for any reunion soon. If I dropped dead, I think that's the safest bet you could make to see all of us in one place."

Re: Replacements

If I remember right, 2005 was the last time that Paul even played live. Tommy, of course, has found steady work as the bassist for Guns n Roses.

Re: Replacements

I saw Paul in 2005 in San Diego. Bonus: it was San Diego.

Lucinda Williams joined him for an encore of "Born for Me." Response was pretty, um, unfavorable.

Setlist
"Merry Go Round"
"Someone Take the Wheel"
"Makin' Me Go"
"Let the Bad Times Roll"
"No Place for You"
"Little Mascara"
"Valentine" (He aboslutely had me here)
"Achin' To Be"
"Skyway"
"Waitress in the Sky"
"First Glimmer"
"Another Girl, Another Planet" (I threw my underwear at this point)
"Heart Of Stone"
"Final Hurrah"
"Love Untold"
"Only a Hobo" (Dylan)
"AAA"
"Kiss Me on the Bus"
"Take Out Some Insurance" (Jimmy Reed)
"I Think I Love You" (Partridge Family)
"Crackle and Drag"
"Kansas City Star" (blues cover)
"As Far as I Know"
"What a Day for a Night"
"Whole Wide World" (Wreckless Eric, and this is before Stranger than Fiction revitalized this track)
"MPLS"
"Knockin' on Mine"
"Can't Hardly Wait" - broken

Encore
End of "Cant Hardly Wait" (Great gimmick to take their break in the middle of a song)
"Born For Me" (With Lucinda Williams)
"High Time"
"Alex Chilton"

Had enormous drummer Michael Bland, formerly of the New Power Generation. And he was great, but unlike with Prince, he wasn't draped with custom-tailored high-end couture that made his mountainous frame seem elegant. He hauled himself around in overalls as best as he could, but when the band would quickly depart the stage for a solo acoustic number, he just sat there on his stool looking at his belly as Westerberg strummed through an intimate Dylan song, as it was seemingly too much of a hassle to get his enormity off the stage when he'd only have to bring it back again. That made me sad. There's room for that in Rock 'n' Roll, though, and what a monster of a drummer.

He's also played with Soul Asylum, so I'm guessing he's like the on-call Minneapolis guy. But last I heard he was playing for Nick Jonas, and that can't be good.

Re: Replacements

I'm going all in for the Chicago show.

On edit = If tickets are $150-$250 I may go all in for holding out for more dates. Riot Fest does not feature many other bands I'd like to see.

Re: Replacements

That was my reaction, TM. Waiting to see if they are going to sell one-day tickets (which they are for Toronto).

That's steady work, is it?

Re: Replacements

That's a lotta old guyz on that poster.

I'm curious to see that Excene Cervenka is still performing. Will anybody go to see Peter Hook and the Light?

What does it mean when a band is advertised as "Flag" with a teasing hint of the Black Flag logo? Is it not Black Flag? Is there a schism in the group where some guys are playing with "Flag" and the others are furious? Is there no registered trademark on that logo? (I read somebody complain on Facebook the other day that the logo had been incorproated into a Louis Vutton tee-shirt.)

Re: Replacements

I don't say any reason why the Mats can't play as many 400 seaters as they want over the next few years so they can retire properly..

Re: Replacements

I'm pretty sure Minneapolis will riot in the streets if they don't play at least one show there...so I expect more dates to follow.

I really hope they do some non-festival shows.
