As America celebrates the 227th anniversary of us tossing those Limey bastards outta here (even as we still inexplicably fawn over the goings-on of their royal family) I'm celebrating by starting my first IGT since banning myself some two months ago following a string of shitty games which, I reasoned, could only have been my fault. 1:10 start -- Dillon Gee and Ian Kennedy are your scheduled protagonists The earlier start time gives this game at least a 27% chance of ending before midnight. Speaking of starting times, nice to see most teams opting for the day-time starts today - beginning with the 11AM first pitch in the D of C. Toronto is going with the standard 7PM start, although in fairness to them it's not July 4th up there (I'm not sure what date it is in Canada, I just know they don't have a July 4th). They had their early start and patriotic shirts on Monday. No wonder that country is all backwards. Also night games in Atlanta & Dallas but they have the excuse of running from the heat. And a couple of 6PM starts in Denver & Anaheim. The rest of the country in going with baseball in the sun even if those of us on the easy coast have only seen a total of about 7 hours of sunshine over the last two weeks.

Three up-and-in to Wright (one a slider). Ross's bat-flipping ass would be a perfect target for some of the same, but nah. The Mets don't do that.

Byrd singles and moves up on a fly to deep left. Ross played it right in, but the throw was a bit off line. Excellent judgment and hustle.

Parra's drag bunt went was too far to Satin's right while Murphy moved in when he saw the bunt but it was bunted so hard that it went past him on the left and the ball ended up in short RF.

That's the nature of slumping hitters: unsure when they should be aggressive and aggressive when they should be more selective. Murphy's displayed both sides of that today.

Yeah, people take pitches on the edge for strike three all the time. He clearly thought it was breaking out of the strike zone. Happens all the time. Bad judgement, but it happens. It's not like there's something morally wrong with taking. Batting is hard. Judging pitches --- also hard. Meanwhile Ross goes the other way by swiinging at a ball out of the strike zone for strike three. Didn't he throw the bat a night or two ago also?

Weak grounder, weak loss. Some great moments within the game but I don't think that makes me feel any better. It was our game to lose, and we lost it a number of times.
