IGT 7/8/13 - NYM @ SFG - Matt The Giant Killer

Tim Lincecum takes the vague memory of his two Cy Young awards and the recent sting of his 4-9, 4.66 season record to the hill to face the surging Mets, led by the oft-nekkid but rarely exposed Matt Harvey. The game starts at 10:15 Eastern time, which will please A Boy Named Seo but cause us Easterners to be sleep-deprived and crabby at work tomorrow. I assure you that no one in my office will notice the difference. Not to step on the KTE, but the Giants are 5-16 since June 15, and the Mets are 13-9 since being shit on by Bob Costas on June 16 (well, including the cause de crapola, the walk-off slam game). 13-9 may not sound like much, but this ain't football where teams go 14-2 on a fairly regular basis. A 13-9 pace will win you 95.7 games, and that's a pretty good three week stretch. The key, of course, is converting that .3 game.

The arc of the Hamari strike zone is long, but it bends toward justice. Aardsma strikes me more as, say, a Tool b-sides album, or a lost Sigur Ros-Bjork collaboration.

In a delightful twist I was able to watch this doing the morning feed rather then sloping off to bed after 3/4 innings of the night one. I could do this west coast trip 16 inning games every time no problem. It'd be handy for me to be honest.

It was upon nodding off during an extra inning game from the coast years ago that first got me writing on this site. I realized I woke up with the tingly excitement like the game was still going on and I was still in the midst of it. I logged on with no intention of posting and then this suddenly came out in one shot. I watched and then listened to every pitch except for when I dozed briefly ... IN THE TOP OF THE 16th!!!!. I then woke up in time to hear the final outs so I knew THAT they had won although not HOW. So this morning I checked in with the DVR as I had flicked on the Record feature when I moved to radio-land around inning 13, and it turns out that there is an unexplained five-minute or so gap in the recording ... COVERING THE TOP OF THE 16th!!!!. The recording then picked up again exactly where I had woken up to Howie & Josh!!! Somehow, someway, the DVR and my consciousness synchronized their naps at the exact same time in different rooms. So I guess they won, huh?

Wow... those of you who stayed up are waaaaayyyy more dedicated than I am. Even in the height of my fandom (mid to late 1980's) I wouldn't have stayed up that late for a game on a work night. When the Mets were playing late playoff games in Phoenix in 1999, I videotaped the game and watched it in the morning before I went to work. I guess I'm one of those people who has an easier time getting up early than staying up late.
