Trading Murphy?

Does Murphy have a future with the Mets? He's a good hitter and his fielding is good for someone that is still learning the position, but is he trade bait? Wilmer Flores plays 2B and is ready. EY can play 2B. Satin can play 2B.

Re: Trading Murphy?

Love Murphy like a brother but I feel if he can't keep it up over .280 he's not pullin his share. I'd rather not see him traded but I won't stand in the way.

What would happen if you did stand in the way? Do you have the power to block a deal?

My standing in the way would probably translate into me yelling at you guys and the team thru one of these boxes.

There are very few untouchables on this team and Murphy isn't one of them.
With neither a lot of power nor a real high OBP (he swings too often to walk much) his value is always going to have a cap to hit unless his BA is consistently .300+
But Flores is being tried at 2B (not sure we can say is CAN play there yet) and I'm not sure what the story on Satin's prowess over there is.
Murph may indeed be trade bait but it's not necessarily because we have the replacement ready to go - whether it be Flores, Satin, Valdespin, Young, Havens, etc.

Re: Trading Murphy?

Murphy is tradeable but without a clear successor the Mets might want to hold here...

I saw Trading Murphy at the Guinness Fleadh in 1998. They were on between the Saw Doctors and Billy Bragg.

I have no idea how Flores is doing with the glove, but he looks to be ready with the bat.

As for Murphy, I still think he'll wind up back between .290 and .300 but right now I think we'd be selling low (barring a hot streak between now and the deadline). I'd still ask around, but my gut tells me to wait.

Re: Trading Murphy?

the way that Murphy has been playing lately, he's killing his trade value...

He was playing well up until Ike got demoted (.288 average, .768 OPS for a #2 hitter ain't too bad...plus his defense was looking more than adequate at 2nd)...

Since he temporarily moved to 1st (and then back to 2nd), he's had several errors and his offensive numbers in that timeframe (June 11 thru yesterday):
.219 with a .531 OPS;

any idea on his defensive splits? (as in, in what games has he committed errors?)...
