The whole freakin system is out of order!

Tonite's opponents were in the news over the weekend for batting out of order. Though there have been dozens of instances of such in baseball history (several against the Mets) the Mets have only committed the BOoO offense once (and been caught, at least as we know). Assuming you didn't just come across the same link as I did, can you name the Met player(s) who were guilty? Clue: I'm looking for 3 players. Two of them are "top 50" Mets according to the CPF Ranking project.

Two top fifty Mets that pop to mind are Harrelson and Carter.

I feel like this just happened..with Jerry Manuel as manager, but I can't recall the circumstances. I feel like it was Pagan who was skipped, but really just guessing.

Didn't Willie screw up the challenge; the same guy on the Reds got to bat twice; and on the second AB he got a hit after making an out the first time? Yes! 5/11/2008 - In the top of the ninth, after a double switch, the Reds batted out of order when David Ross hit in Corey Patterson's spot. Ross flew out to right and then Mets Manager Willie Randolph told the umpires about the issue. Patterson was called out instead of Ross and Ross batted again and singled. Randolph should have taken the out and kept quiet. And now, the one time the Mets were guilty of BOoO: 4/29/1977 - In a game in San Diego, the Mets batted out of order through the whole game. The lineup featured Roy Staiger batting sixth, John Stearns seventh and Bud Harrelson eighth. This was a change from recent games when Stearns was sixth and Staiger seventh and the two batted this way four times in a row. In the first inning, Stearns hit into an inning-ending double play. Staiger made an out and Harrelson singled in the second (both batting out of turn). Stearns led off the fourth with a home run but the Padres said nothing. Both Staiger and Harrelson made outs, again out of order. In the fifth, Stearns and Staiger were both out but Harrelson started the sixth by reaching on an infield error. With two out in the seventh, Stearns walked and Staiger singled him to third. However, the Padres finally spoke up and the umpires incorrectly declared Staiger out instead of Harrelson, who led off the eighth inning. Even with all the batting changes, the Mets won the game, 9-2.

Was anyone in the stands, or in the dugout, keeping a scorecard? Didn't they spot this immediately? Three batters, multiple times? Nobody noticed? Weird. Rod Serling could have made an entire episode about that for The Twilight Zone. Later

I heard the Mets whacked Willie Randolph after the game last night at 4 AM EST, out of force of habit.
