IGT 7/23/13 ATL@NYM - If it wasn't for those Medlen kids...

Ruh roh. Kris Medlen is 4-0, 1.84 lifetime against the Mets, having made seven starts and ten relief appearances against our boys. Carlos Torres hopes to keep up his fine work in a matchup that, from all appearances, might go scoreless for a while.

There you go, Laggy getting the call vs. a righty.

(After striking out last night in the ninth on ball four from a righty up by his chin, but there you go.)

28 (under pressure) pitches from Kimbrel last night, do you suppose that burns him for tonight's game?

Yeah, me either.

I am calling this a near must win game. The Mets do not have even one 3-4 game swoon to spare if they are to contend for the NL East title...and I believe they can...

Now win dammit..

Considering we signed Aardsma as an in-season free agent after a release by the last-place Marlins, and got Young in a DFA trade for a McHugh, I envy no man with regard to finding diamonds on the street.

Usually.

This is the third time the Mets have allowed a leadoff homer, and that was the only run their opponent scored. They won last night, and they won on August 19, 1998 when Darryl Hamilton, then of the Colorado Rockies, led off with a homer off of Masato Yoshii. That was all they got, and the Mets got two in the fourth to win 2-1.

However, on September 2, 1963 Jay Hook gave up a leadoff homer to Pete Rose, and that was it. The Mets were in the process of being shut out by Jim Maloney, and lost a 1-0 heartbreaker.

Not sure if either of those were on the second pitch of the game, but close enough.

OE: Forgot to credit Mark Simon of ESPN who posted this factoid on his Twitter account. Well, the year and hitter, anyway. The UMDB provided the details.

Re: IGT 7/23/13 ATL@NYM - If it wasn't for those Medlen kids

I was thinking, after I wrote that last night, that it would be possible to be down Two-nothing after two pitches and therefore your odds of that game becoming a win ticks down slightly more.
