Somebody else should say it because I get shit for just about everything I write, but this Harvey is on some douchebag streak as of late Mets' Harvey says he envies Jeter's prowess with beautiful women POST STAFF REPORT Last Updated: 3:33 PM, July 17, 2013 Posted: 2:09 PM, July 17, 2013 Mets pitcher Matt Harvey arrives with his girlfriend, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Anne Vyalitsyna, for the All Star Game Parade on Tuesday. Matt Harvey envies Derek Jeter – especially when it comes to the ladies. The Mets pitching phenom told Men’s Journal that he wants the kind of love life Jeter has had for years in New York City, complete with the gorgeous celebrities and uncanny privacy. "That guy is the model," Harvey said. "I mean, first off, let's just look at the women he's dated. Obviously, he goes out – he's meeting these girls somewhere – but you never hear about it. That's where I want to be." Harvey isn't doing too badly in that department -- he's currently dating Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Anne Vyalitsyna. Though he hasn't exactly kept things as quiet as Jeter with Anne V joining Harvey on his All-Star Parade on Tuesday. Also, Jeter never posed nude for ESPN's "Body Issue," like the Mets ace did. Harvey, who lives in the East Village, is enjoying the Manhattan lifestyle with plenty of fancy restaurants, clubs, bars and parties. The 24-year-old does say he doesn’t drink 48 hours before a start. “But those other days? Yes, I'm gonna go out,” he said. “If I was locked up in my house all week, I don't know what I'd be like on the baseball field." In his younger days: Derek Jeter and ex-girlfriend, actress Jordana Brewster in 2002 at a Nets game. Harvey, originally from Connecticut, is still on his rookie contract, but he’s likely to sign a lucrative extension with the Mets some time soon. The team would be crazy to let go of the fireballing right-hander, who started Tuesday night’s All-Star Game at Citi Field and threw 2 1/3 shutout innings. "No matter what, New York is now my home," he says, finishing the night's last drink. "I could buy a place now, but I've gotta wait for that $200 million contract. If I'm going to buy an apartment, it has to be the best apartment in the city." That competitiveness certainly extends off the field. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Harvey has befriended Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, noted for his stylish clothing, and high-end John Varvatos has become one of Harvey’s favorite stores. "He always makes the best-dressed lists," Harvey said of Lundqvist. "Well, I want to be on those lists." The list of baseball’s best pitchers is not enough. Along with Rangers like Lundqvist and Brian Boyle, Harvey hangs out in the city with finance and marketing 20-somethings. "Baseball is my job, and I love it," Harvey said. He's a douche, but hey, he's our douche. It seems like you say the same about Seaver in some respects no? I mean, Jeter's a douche too, and that's fine, I suspect Harvey will be a little classier than having his friends sneak him girls up to his place and then give them gift baskets for their trouble.

The only real difference is that I didn't realize what a douche that Seaver could be until recent years. When I was a kid I loved him unconditionally.

he's young, handsome, and a superstar-on-the-rise. Hell, i'd want to have Jeter's life too, if that was me. i don't begrudge him. As Max Byalystock said: "if ya got it baby, flaunt it, flaunt it!" Bang all the models you want Harvey. As long as your throwing 98 MPH strikes at the knees, you and i have got no problem.

It would be better if all our players turned into David Wright, but you're going to get some Jeters, and that's ok, as long as you don't end up with guys who are "me first" where the game is concerned or guys whose off field shit gets in the way of winning.

I'm getting a little worried about the level of hype. It makes me feel like some kind of crash is coming. Harvey's great and everything, but this is a guy with ten career wins. Ten. As for his enjoying the night life, good for him. That's nothing unusual. It's just a little surprising how candid he is about it.

I heard he loves to boogie. Really, don't fear the crash. It's going to happen if it isn't happening already. The team's job isn't to wrap him in bubble wrap, but to back him up with his much quality as they can roll out. That was the answer for Seaver, and it was the answer for Gooden, both of whom fell to earth in their day )if only for parts of '72 and a chunk of '74.

They dolled him up but good for his photo shoot, with several posed on the 7 train. Sports Illustrated used a yellow cab. What is it about New York and transportation? If it wasn't all about the numbers, A-Reck would be getting these spreads. Right, Swannie?

I watched a lot of stuff yesterday with the sound off with him on the pre-game field and he seems cool with his peers. Screw the slants, the twats, and whatever ... and the Bryant Park thing was funny. Go get 'em next start and I hope this doesn't turn into a circus.

Well, I'd imagine most top of the line jocks at least slant towards egotistical douche, so.. In fact it's often the guys that seem gentle and quiet that don't fit in.

Jeter is a first-ballot Hall of Famer with a handful of rings, played his whole career for one team, and has managed to avoid controversy his entire career despite living in NY. Let's face it, young players should be modeling themselves after him. From many different reports, he is great with charity work, especially kids in the hospital where he really puts in the extra effort. He was also really cool to my son when we met him in person. My biggest complaint about him isn't even really his fault. It's that he's incredibly overrated by the fans, the media, etc. He's gotten himself to the point where if he strikes out, he's applauded for not hitting into a double play. Even when leading off an inning. Let's hope that Harvey follows this model. Plays his whole career with the Mets, wins a slew of rings, bangs a bunch of models, then gives a really douchy Hall of Fame induction speech.

Even the first-ballot thing is subjective and media/writer driven. Piazza's a first-ballot HOFer but played in the steroid era. Why should it be different for Jeter or Rivera? But there are plenty of things to make controversy on if they felt like it. Whether it's gift baskets or tax evasion or how he's shirks the media when he can get away with it, stubbornly insists on where he hits in the lineup and that he can still play SS (contrast with a guy like Beltran who not only offers to move, helps his replacement in the process) and didn't come across as rosy in contract negotiations and is at least partially responsible for the treatment A-Rod gets. The best thing an athlete can do is not be ashamed to be himself, whoever that is. The media will do what they want, but be honest with yourself and your team and it won't manifest into trouble. *shrug* guess that's good advice overall though.

Obviously, putting aside any moral or health-related arguments for monogamy, it's not the douchiest thing in the world to be making insinuations about the broad record of romantic conquests you'd like to achieve, but while you're currently entertaining a high-profile relationship with a supermodel, a relationship promoted in the same magazine you're making these comments in, it is kinda douchey. rereading hte original quote, i think we're reading too much into it. all he's really saying, i think, is that he wants to date beautiful women and not be hounded by tabloids in the process. is that so douchey? the insinuations that the hot model he's currently dating isn't clearly enough and that he wants to string together an unending parade of hot young tail are being made outside of his words, clearly pulling just enough on the jeter thread to make for some fun hyperbole.

Ill tell ya if Harvey can walk the walk that goes with his talk we got something special here. I think I said that about Valdesac so..... I do think that if Matt asked Jeter for advice the first thing Derek would say is : stop running off at the mouth. Only say things that need to be said. I find Harvey refreshing in that he does say and do this stuff. He's really living it. Now all he has to do is pitch like a top ace for years and years and back up his jivetalk.
