Short week but Juan was its king. And tonight, per Terry Collins, he rests on his laurels...or the bench.

I thought 'Valdespin' translated to 'whinery'

Maybe he'll celebrate by drawing a walk some time this season.

He's got more chance of that on the bench with pencil and paper than at the plate.

Congratulations Juan. Now grab a seat so the guy hitting .205 and played CF on Friday like he had a hangover can play instead.

I'm comparing Lagares to Gomez. I'm gonna compare Lagares to Gomez. Here I am comparing Lagares to Gomez. I'm comparing them again. One more time before I go.

And in closing, don’t assume Carlos Gomez as a likely outcome. It isn’t fair to Lagares, and it doesn’t make much sense.

Megdal having a career as a writer doesn't make much sense, but there it is.

The only reason TC did this is that The Book says so.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis in July: .286 / .375 / .524 // .899 in 48 plate appearances.
Juan Lagares in July: 412 / .429 / .618 // 1.046 in 35 plate appearances.

The comparison between this Lagares, whoever he happens to be, and Carlos Gomez, is natural, according to Megdal:

Howard Megdal wrote:
Naturally, that’s where Gomez comes in, another overmatched hitting, elite center fielder for years, who has become one of the best players in the National League. His defense stayed constant, and he learned to hit, despite not altering his ability to draw walks at all.

I like the way CarGo is initially referenced in Megdal's piece -- "Gomez", just "Gomez", no first name.

"Megdal's right, honey. This Lagares is no Gomez".

The real comparison - see how Lagares reacts when you speak French.

If Gomez is ever in a ticker-tape parade, at least it will feel familiar to him.

Just wow. If I took "Carlos Gomez", "Juan Lagares", 500 random words and haphazardly threw them onto a screen, it would end up making more sense than that article.
