So far the Mets are making Joe Blanton look like Cy Young. WTF?

Edgy DC
Jun 14 2005 10:39 PM

Tom Glavine is pitching a Tom Glavine game, succeeding by staying away.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 14 2005 10:39 PM

That was about as pathetic a round trip through the Met lineup all year... and that's saying something!

Geez, we're gonna fall out of this race in a hurry if we don't start hitting better.

Edgy DC
Jun 14 2005 10:41 PM

Cliff coming up half-lame after planting and throwing on a double.

ScarletKnight41

Kielty's single drives in Kotsay. 1-0 A's.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 14 2005 10:52 PM

This is pathetic.

The answer to the AFLAC trivia question (Who pitched in all 7 '73 WS games) is Daryl Knowles

If pitching today, Knowles would retire the current Mets in order.

Jun 14 2005 10:55 PM

We suck.

Edgy DC
Jun 14 2005 10:55 PM

Always nice to see Keith Ginter flail and sit.

I'll say it. Eric Byrnes eats worms.

If I have to sit up until 1 am watching John Blasoe play with himself and a game like this, I'll be crabby in the morning

Frayed Knot
Jun 14 2005 11:08 PM

Do you think we'll even have a good AT-BAT before the game's over??

Edgy DC
Jun 14 2005 11:09 PM

After 14 in a row, Marlon gets a single.

we suck, and Glavine hasn't fooled anyone.
his best bet for getting an out would be to stare at the hitters and tell them "these aren't the pitches you are looking for"

And where is Keith???

They promised us Keith in California!

We'll be seeing Graves soon it seems...moneyball Blanton is pitching a gem..

I finally figured out who Bobby Kielty looks like -- it's a grown-up version of the bully kid who picks on Ralphie in that Christmas in Indiana movie (blanking on the title).

Johnny Dickshot

This is the first game of a 12-game road trip. We could return to Shea buried.

Anyone watching the game notice any shaking out there in Oakland. This just popped up at Boston.com:

]BREAKING NEWS: A major earthquake has struck off the coast of northern California, the Associated Press is reporting. --Developing

Edgy DC
Jun 14 2005 11:47 PM

Nothing there.

Beltran doing the stupid first base dive. Not hurt.

Edgy DC
Jun 14 2005 11:48 PM

Danny in 32.

I think Tom Hausman even before I think Matlack.

Willets Point
Jun 14 2005 11:50 PM

That's a relief. That "off the coast" part makes me worry about a tsunami hitting the California coast.

Edgy DC
Jun 14 2005 11:50 PM

Cairo's out.

Appeared to tweak the hammy.

Keppinger time, perhaps.

Edgy DC
Jun 14 2005 11:58 PM

Singles by Piazza and Anderson and the Mets have a gen-u-ine threat.

Calero coming on with no outs and Astro Avenue behind him.

Nymr83
Jun 14 2005 11:59 PM

the fear of Wright has struck oakland, as they have gone to the bullpen!

whats with this earthquake thing? will the tsunami wipe out half the Mets roster?
it ain't called the Coliseum for nothing....let it flood and fill it with vicious man-eating animals!!

Brando gets the Mets third hit.

Macha goes to the pen.

Locked and loaded, and the closer comes in with one out in the eighth inning.

Let's go, Vick!

Major quake strikes off California coast

June 14, 2005

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. --A major earthquake struck Tuesday night about 80 miles off the coast of northern California, prompting a tsunami warning along the Pacific coast.

The 7.0-magnitude quake struck at about 7:50 p.m. southwest of the coastal community of Crescent City, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Web site.

A tsunami warning was in effect from the California-Mexico border north to Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Residents were being evacuated from low-lying areas of Crescent City, KCBS radio reported.

Met's DP, A's homer....THIS SUCKS!!!!!

Nymr83
Jun 15 2005 12:22 AM

when did the Mets drop to 8th in homers? they were first recently werent they?

this road trip could end the season as the teams in our division are finally hot and going 2-4 out west then losing 2-3 to the yankees could turn this into a rebuilding year in a hurry.

Which would suck short-term, but might not be so bad in the long run . . .

I'm going on record as saying that we're too banged up. We need to put some peeps on the DL, call up Daubach and maybe Keppinger and let our bench do some work while Beltran gets healthy. And Cairo too, I suppose. Beltran sounds like a liability out there. Who's our back-up center fielder if neither he nor Cam can go? Is it Anderson?

As for the home run thing, we were in third or fourth going into our homestand, then a combination of Shea and injuries dropped us down. Mostly Shea, IMO.

Diaz tells Newsday he's ready to play 1B .... NOW!!!!

WWSB suggests otherwise.

At least it was a quick game

Edgy DC
Jun 15 2005 10:34 AM

This is abasloutely my wound-licking imagination talking, but I fear that Diaz is a lesser hitter without more at-bats.

Could Diaz be much more of a liability at first than in right?

Rotblatt
Jun 15 2005 10:43 AM

He's not an option at 1st now, since Cameron can't play. I'd rather see us play Diaz in the outfield at least until one of Beltran or Cameron is at least 90% healthy. In the meantime, let's keep giving him practice there--maybe sub him in late in a laugher or something, in addition to taking ground balls.

I think he definitely needs at bats, though. When's the last time he got more than 1 at bat in a game?

sharpie
Jun 15 2005 10:47 AM

He played both ends of the doubleheader against the Giants.

Spacemans Bong
Jun 15 2005 11:16 AM

Last night sucked.

Decent Met fan turnout, far more than I thought there was going to be. The BART train to the park had me and myself for Met fans.

Some cool people came out though. Lots of Seaver and Dykstra jerseys, heh.

You could really see how many infernal bandwagoners infect Oakland when the Red Sox and Yankees come, though, since the Metsian presence was nowhere near what the Sox and Yanks get, and I doubt that there's more New Englanders out here than New Yorkers, and I doubt that there's somehow a 90/10 split of Yankees/Mets fans of those who have come here.

Then again, as a nutjob Red Sox fan I knew this. That hat's new, you're not from New England, you're not from New England, you bought that yesterday, it's Papi not Papa, etc. etc.
