Help is On The Way

It was announced on the post game radio show that the Mets have signed "40 year old catcher Bennie Santiago to a minor league contract".

40?
Who are they kidding?
He was my boyhood idol.

I guess he was Plan B after Kelly Stinnett didn't work out.

Sheesh - I wanted them to sign Santiago back when I thought he'd be a successor to Gary Carter. That was at least 15 years ago.

Anudder thought: If Benny makes the 40 man roster it will have a major impact on Mets lore.
No longer will we be able to say that Danny Napoleon is the ugliest player in Mets history.

I've never heard him called Bennie.

And George Foster and Jesse Orosco were the ugliest players in Met history.

We've gotten a lot of mileage out of these two over the years. When I first read
this thread last night I commented under my breath, "what, they couldn't lure
Tony Pena out of retirement?"

Mole, my Jays fan freinds called him Bennie.
And he has a daughter who (unfortunately ) looks like him, who they call Bennybeth.

The goofiest looking player in Mets history has got to be George "The Stork" Theodore.

I remember that ongoing debate at the time. On the (then new) WFAN and with the kids at my high school.

OE: Hee-hee, right now I'm Jim Hickman.

If Benito Santiago makes the club he'll join Claudell Washington & Miguel Cairo on the 'All-Met World Capital' team.
Jose Lima will be the honorary opponent.

Jay Payton?

But he wants to play every day, and unless the Mets make a couple more outfield deals...

Over at CPF-ez, "Help is On The Way" meant cooby was putting on her Bernie Williams shirt.

Why does cooby have a t-shirt of a player from the Dark Side?

It's a mystery.

No it's not! My son bought it for me when we were at Yankee Stadium! (with our supper money)

And you went hungry? That's not lucky - that's tragic!
