Those Met Commercials - Take 2

What about Baginski?
|
Frayed Knot Jun 17 2005 12:20 PM |
Hey it could be worse, it could actually be accurate.

I hate to admit it, but the Aflacduck makes me laugh in the Chinese food

I wish they'd just go back to the damn Foxwoods jingle. These others are so much more irritating.

I LOVE that one. I was pointing it out to D-Dad the other night, who looked at me like I had three heads. But I love the part when he hears what they ordered.

"other shortstops don't like children, or animals"
|
gnatman Jun 24 2005 06:36 PM |
I wish the Mets would please stop running the newsreel spoof "vote for Jose Reyes for All-Star" commercial. It's cheesy enough in a vacuum, but made even worse by the fact that he's got no business being the starting All-Star SS this year.
|
ScarletKnight41 Jun 24 2005 07:51 PM |
I agree - it's an awful commercial. Insulting to the intelligence of the viewer.
|
Frayed Knot Jun 24 2005 08:05 PM |
Plus, I always associate All-Star Game politic-ing as a 'small-town' thing.
|

I know - just like how Knicks fans at the Garden used to be above towel waving and noise thumpers . . . but no more - a Garden crowd reveling in the "city game" is no longer any more sophisticated than the supposedly "hick" crowds in "cow towns" like Sacramento, Minneapolis and Indianapolis
|
abogdan Jun 26 2005 11:59 AM |
I posted this in IGT yesterday, but it's worth repeating: There aren't too many things funnier than Mr. Met whittling a giraffe.
|
Frayed Knot Jun 26 2005 04:40 PM |
|
Yup. Some longtime Knick fans trace the downfall to the introduction of 'The Knick City Dancers'. I'm not sure when (or why) stadium operators got the idea that us morons in the seats would lose interest if we had to go a whole 30 or 40 seconds w/o being entertained. Jeez, we'd actually have to talk to the people we went to the game with or something.
|
Edgy DC Jun 26 2005 05:57 PM |
When my brother brought my Dad to the Garden last season, they had to leave at halftime, because the overstimulation was so offputting that the oldd man couldn't appreciate the basketball that took place in betwen the epic light sabre battles, or whatever else they were throwing at him.
|
ScarletKnight41 Jun 26 2005 06:01 PM |
Nor his ears, I imagine :(
|
Edgy DC Jun 26 2005 06:20 PM |
Well, I have to confess, it's pretty hard to deafen my old man any further than he already is.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 07:45 PM |
I guessed the Aflac duck right. Is that the voice of Gene Hackman on the Oppenheimer Funds commercial?
|
metirish Jun 28 2005 08:50 PM |
Good call on Hackman, I've had the same thought a few times.
|
Centerfield Jun 29 2005 08:50 AM |
I think there's no question that it's Gene Hackman.
|
Spacemans Bong Jun 29 2005 09:02 AM |
Hackman does Oppenheimer Funds and Lowe's Home Improvement.

The 8-gazillion variations on the Foxwoods "psychiatrist-word association" ads are grating and annoying. I'll take the jingle any time, at least its melodic and catchy.

i am gonna try to use the hand-flip-over "fresh toast my sub" sign on the local sandwich artist at subway later tonight. i know willie says they dont use that sign in queens. but i live in jersey so maybe they know that one here.

I've got a bunch of Subways on campus here, but they definitely use different signs in DC.

Someday, the AFLAC Trivia Question will be... "How fast does Mr. Met run?" Remember that the answer is 6-7 mph.
|
Elster88 Sep 08 2005 08:16 AM |
I really enjoy the commercials of Mr. Met fucking around at Shea with the end caption of: The Mets are coming back to town....And not a moment too soon.

Ok, you guys know the commercial where the guy runs out of gas, and the gas lady comes out to get him, and her boss says to her "Isn't that the third time this month?" hinting that the driver is doing it on purpose so he can see her.
|
Edgy DC Sep 15 2005 12:26 PM |
Ouch.
|
Elster88 Sep 15 2005 12:28 PM |
Glad I'm not the only one who was wondering that.

Shouldn't she like pour the contents of the gas can on him and threaten to strike a match if he doesn't quit coming up with lame excuses to stalk her?
|
cooby Sep 15 2005 12:32 PM |
I always figured the boss was her dad, what other 30 year old woman would work at a gas station?
|
SwitchHitter Sep 15 2005 05:21 PM |
I used to think y'all had the same commercials we do. Last year, it was the one with the guys burglarizing a place until they run into the appropriate team's memoribilia and then carefully putting everything back and leaving a yellow note on the repaired window. This year, it's everyone wearing rally caps, even store mannequins, and the team gets a hit or the passing on of the two-fingered sign so the hitter would know the deuce was coming.
|
cooby Sep 15 2005 06:57 PM |
We get them too, Annie. I like the burglar one and the mechanics with the fish ones best.
|
KC Sep 15 2005 07:40 PM |
That gas girl is very cute. I just wish they'd do the sequel already when

The universal MLB team commercials are bad news. Evolution comes through variety. Devolution is comes through confomity.
|
Willets Point Sep 16 2005 03:23 AM |
What about Intelligent Design?
|
ScarletKnight41 Sep 16 2005 05:17 AM |
The universal commercials usually come from Fox Sports Net. I've noticed a bunch on the MLB package. Although I think they were more in vogue last year - I don't recall seeing quite as many this year.

I think the oddest thing about those Toyota of Manhattan commercials is the random woman at the end that turns to the camera and says "It's true."
