A suggestion

In the past, the CPF Book Club was an attempt to get a bunch of people to
read a book and discuss it. It kinda failed. C'mon, it kinda did.

I'd like to see the forum description changed to discussion of baseball books,
particularly Mets' books (one of my resolutions is to re-read and read the mountain
of crap I've collected), in addition to group discussion of whatever youse CPF Book
Club peoples have in mind for yet another forum.

You don't have to tell me. It's Li-- Willets who re-launched this. Lord knows I've failed to pilot this baby in the past.

Feel free to change the description as desired. I more or less or exactly agree with you.

On the other it hand it was Ed -- Edgy who made a whole new sub-forum about this, I was just planning on discussing the book in a thread. On the old CPF the CPF Book Club forum became a place to discuss baseball books in general so I don't see why we can't just use this new forum for discussing baseball books in general. I'm in favor of things literary, things without strict rules, and things that are fun & laid back in general.

I've always thought it would be fun to have a place to discuss any books, like the film forum, not just baseball books.

As long as it is not some stupid 20 year old paperback that you just picked up somewhere and nobody else is liable to read. You know, bestsellers or popular authors or classics

Heck, share with us your thoughts on dumb 20-year-old paperback bestsellers. The old place had some good reviews of dumb movies --- Snapple on Hard Rain, for example.

Old movies and old paperbacks are way different aminals.

I kinda agree with KC. If we're gonna segregate a whole room, it may as well be reserved for general baseball book reviews, suggestions and discussion a la films, and will get a better workout. (Don't know whether novels or whatever else need this more than the simple gdf thread)

One thread per baseball book. The way things are looking you'll have a good discussion on the Thomas book, but no reason then not also to have a place for others.

I think this should be a general book review place which contains the reading group discussions. The "what are you reading now" GDF thread has seemed to me a "post a picture of the cover and don't say anything" thread and doesn't really invite discussion. 20-year-old paperbacks, whether baseball books or not, should be welcome.

How about calling it the "What Are You Reading Now?" Forum?

It is a little frustrating that What are You Reading Now? is just a lot of pictures of covers. It would be more interesting if it was What Did You Just Finish Reading? and it included a sentence or two about the book.

I like the film review forum mode better where there is a thread devoted to every title. Not nearly as many people read an individual book as see an individual movie so the polls wouldn't be necessary but it would be good to have a place to write something about books. The "post-a-picture" GDF thread has its place if you don't really have anything to say about the book (or you think it has a pretty cover).

What's GDF?

I meant NBF (Non-Baseball Forum). I got General Discussion Forum lodged in my brain from wayback.

Yeah, sharpie, that's the way I think of it.

Typically, a thread for each book, but if Kiss It Goodbye does well, that could be multiple threads.

I'm thinking that there should be several Kiss it Goodbye threads. (I can already think of three or four that I'd start.) Otherwise we'll be crossing over each other discussing different things in the same thread.

We could include the words "Kiss it Goodbye" in the thread title so that they'll be easily recognizable.

For example:

Kiss it Goodbye: Why did Frank name all of his daughters Ann?
Kiss it Goodbye: The fight with Richie Allen
Kiss it Goodbye: Frank's year in Cincinnati

(These are not, by the way, the threads I've been thinking I'd create.)

Of course it's good idea!

Actually, it was my idea.

If God wants to take the credit, though, I guess I should allow it. I don't want to be smitten by any thunderbolts or anything. And I don't need to have a bunch of locusts buzzing around my house. (Although a plague of frogs would be pretty cool.)
