Johnny Dickshot Dec 16 2005 10:54 AM |
I'll start by nominating the two I described.

"One" --- U2
|
seawolf17 Dec 16 2005 11:07 AM |
I nominate Metallica's "One". Not only did it put Metallica on the MTV map for the first time, but it's a tremendous slab of heavy rock that may be the signature song for the most important heavy metal bands of their time. It slides in above Hall & Oates easily; I would put it above U2 and the Oils, but that's just personal preference and I don't know that anyone else would agree.
|
metirish Dec 16 2005 11:08 AM |
This is a tough one Dickshot, your analysis is spot on, I must vote for U2 if only because "one" live in concert is so powerful, still both are great songs..
|
sharpie Dec 16 2005 11:13 AM |
I nominate 3 Dog Night's "One (Is the Loneliest Number)" because it has One in its title.
|
Willets Point Dec 16 2005 11:23 AM |
I nominate "One" by Eddie from Ohio (not rock I know so feel to disqualify if you like).

Johnny Dickshot Dec 16 2005 11:29 AM |
Time out: This isn't working the way it should. I was hoping to have a showdown between the first two, then progress.

seawolf17 Dec 16 2005 11:32 AM |
Metallica's "One" (at least a "one"-minute clip)
|
Edgy DC Dec 16 2005 11:34 AM |
Sorry about that.
|
seawolf17 Dec 16 2005 11:35 AM |
How about Nelly's "#1"? Great song.
|
seawolf17 Dec 16 2005 11:36 AM |
Or "The One" by Foo Fighters?
|
metirish Dec 16 2005 11:37 AM |
One tree hill form U2 is damn good.

Did Eddie from Ohio get disqualified or did you just forget?
Soundclip on Amazon.
|

Or "The One" by Elton John?
|
Edgy DC Dec 16 2005 11:41 AM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Dec 16 2005 11:42 AM |
Yeah, I agree that "She's the One" and "The Lucky One" --- worthy as they are --- open the field to too many players. We expand beyond songs with themes of one-ness to themes of she-ness.
|
sharpie Dec 16 2005 11:41 AM |
One More Cup of Coffee (Valley Below) by Bob Dylan, also ably covered by White Stripes should be in there.
|
Edgy DC Dec 16 2005 11:42 AM |
Or "The One" by Elton John?
|
HahnSolo Dec 16 2005 11:48 AM |
The One Thing, by INXS merits at-large consideration into this tourney.

Out of control again.
|
sharpie Dec 16 2005 11:58 AM |
Not really. Get a whole mess of songs. 20 or so. We each vote for, say, 5 or 10 that we would like to see get in the next round and then, in a field of 10, we rank them. You get 10 points for first, 9 for second, etc. and then "one" emerges as the winner.
|
Johnny Dickshot Dec 16 2005 12:05 PM |
I like a double-elimination tourney with real contenders.
|
metirish Dec 16 2005 12:08 PM |
I'm fine with that Dickshot, in all honestly do you think "One Country" is a very well known song?, it might fail your own criteria.
|
Johnny Dickshot Dec 16 2005 12:10 PM |
I'm not sure if One Country will make the cut. Ask edgy what he's done with Ron.
|
Willets Point Dec 16 2005 12:11 PM |

ONE from A Chorus Line
|
sharpie Dec 16 2005 01:36 PM |
I think Dickshot is looking for rock songs. One (singular sensation) could be pitted against West Side Story's "One Hand, One Heart" in the musical division.
|

|
I agree with you, but that's not whatthe title of the thread said. Later
|
seawolf17 Dec 16 2005 01:46 PM |
That's why I threw Nelly in there. His "#1" is better than anything Hall and Oates ever wrote.

Umm, that would be 'One LESS Bell to Answer' Also available: 'One Fine Day' - Chiffons 'One Way or Another' - Blondie 'Still the One' - Orleans
|
sharpie Dec 16 2005 02:03 PM |
Yes, of coure you're right about the downward trend of bells. I've got no problem if DIckshot nixes that one.
|
Edgy DC Dec 16 2005 02:06 PM |

You know. You're a rich girl. But you've gone too far. Nelly can meet Darryl and John in the soul division. Then we'll settle this crap and good.

One More Cup of Coffee is better than any of these songs and it doesn't make the cut?
|
Willets Point Dec 16 2005 03:25 PM |
I'm bummed about "One Country". If the guys from Gooch Hall my freshman year of college were members of this forum they'd all vote for it. We used to listen to it over and over.

I think a Marley U2 final would be cool, especially as Bono and the lads hold Bob Marley in such high regard.
|
Johnny Dickshot Dec 18 2005 10:43 PM |
It might be the most worthless thing we've ever done here, but I'm determined to get through it.

Perhaps it is but it's a whole lot of fun, helps get through the off-season.
