Year In Review: 2005 At The Crane Pool Forum

This year has been an interesting one at the CPF, to say the least. And though I was only here for less than half of it, there have been some great times here... and some trying times. Let's review the year that was 2005 at the CPF.

I got into Freakin' Rutgers and started my grad studies.

We changed servers due to the Cyber Tsunami in the spring.

Something is in the water, because CF and his wife just had a baby and a lot of Crane Poolers have babies due this winter (coincidentally, these babies all seem to be due around 9 months following the Cyber Tsunami. Hmmm....).

December was my best CPF month ever, and I've been here for three years.

I won the song parody contest in my rookie season.

And, after months of failed attempts, I succeeded in luring two Mets celebrities into the Pool. (With an invaluable assist from Edgy on Steve Zabriskie. He closed that deal, I just got it started.)

awww....
*Z blushes mightily*

Shucks,.....thanks SK.

Im not even half a year old yet here, I think.
I hope to be more involved in 2006.
Find time for some of these neat contests and stuff.

The CPF has made being a Met fan out of NY, which is to say a fish out of water, a most enjoyable experience.
Not that I dont go on about the Mets down here,....just that nobody listens.;)

Hey, don't forget about me, OlerudOwned, and the other new CPFers!

We had some great times in 2005. "I'm Ogden Nash" was probably my favorite thread of the year. The "Benson Bunch" inspired perhaps my best work, "SAABP - Substance Abusers Anonymous for Baseball Players". That one morning when over a month of the CPF was wiped out for a few hours scared the crap out of me, though.

Is CPF traffic up over 2004?

Oh, I don't know.

Funny, but I checked the stats over at ezboard and there's been a hell of a lot of robots looking at the pages, even though there hadn't been a post in a month. I threw up a dummy post just in case they get a bee in their bonnets to purge inactive boards.

I bet that was the day we had that bizarro loss of data here.

Great idea for a thread. 2005 was a lot of fun. Move to a nicer place...bunch of new posters...the new Shaefer PoTG points system...our efforts to put the Mets back on TV...I'd say it was a pretty good year for the CPF.

Pozitives:

* Buncha great new posters really revitalized this place. Tell your friends!

* Kickass song parody contest.

* Terrific POTG voting & tracking

* Special guest posters

* Speedy recovery from EZBoard blowup, new board easier to search, better archives

Negs:
* EZBoard blow-up wastes lots of hard work

* Some discussion sagging and/or damaged under too many specialty forums and catchall threads -- confusion/bad feelings over thread-copping on the one hand, and stifled/ignored discussion on the other.

* Answer/Ask in death throes for months now

* Less Norrin Radd, no gf21212121 to prop up music discussions

* Fallen Angel Sal Q a bummer

I don't like to blow my own horn (although I would if I could) but I had a hand in most of the positives that Johnny listed.

Because of my successful 2005, I'm going to try to get a $2,000 raise from Branch Rickey. Wish me luck!

I'll toot your horn for ya: Great job (b-flat)

I neglected to mention how much I enjoyed the debut of The Wifey Watch Thread, which to me, evokes both an innocent retro-consciousness (the Family Day pics in the Yearbooks, for instance, and the whole Tom n' Nancy thing) and a creepy, Internet-is-dangerous vibe from today.

It's the perfect CPF thread.

That's a pretty funny and dead-on observation re: the wifey thread.

And I'll echo a toot for Yance, his sql expertise made the transition much
less stressful and cut weeks off of some tasks. Thanks, again.

Toot, toot Yancy. My life as an archivist is much at ease with your weberrific solutions.

Yes - Yancy was a lifesaver in the aftermath of our Cyber Tsunami.

Three Cheers for Yancy!
