Re: IGT, 8/10, Wheeling Through the Desert

Young leads off the game with a hit but that's about it. Might be another shitty home plate ump but that looked like it could have been a strike to Murph, who is called out on strikes to end the first. Danny got a little verbal. Lil bit.

Cooome on. Ike and Buck let an easy pop foul fall between them. Either could have caught it, both backed off.

Almost a great DP started by Muffy. Nice play. Got the lead runner.

Thoughts on the (in progress) game

1) There are a lot of very juvenile type signs at the ballpark there. Not juvenile as in the message, just paper stuff w/magic markers that look and reads like they were made by 4th graders during recess

2) that techno-pop walk-up music used by one of the Arizona players (Parra, I think) is a crime against the senses

3) that double was the best ball Ike has hit since his recall, he has several doubles but many of them have been bloops or just strategically placed

4) REALLY dumb base-running move by Flores, our third dumb-ass move on the bases in the last 13 innings.

I think it's more a lineup thing than a defense thing - but I also think Terry over-plays this. Unless a double-switch is going to get you an extra inning out of your pitcher it's usually not worth doing.
In this case the pitcher's slot is due up in top 9, but he's almost certain to be switching pitchers anyway so the switcheroo doesn't really buy you anything and it burns a player who may be needed later on.

Sure. But without the double switch Turner would simply be PH-ing there and the result would be the same.
So unless Terry is planning on using Pedro to start off the 9th inning (which he isn't) our manager was guilty of premature switch-ulation.
