Leading off, Eric Young gets a hit in August. That almost never happens!

Re: IGT, 8/12, Hey, Puig, Meet the Mets

Byrd looked like he took that out of deference to the baserunner, which is a heck of a sacrifice when you're already down a strike.

The late games always remind me of my grandfather, who would stay up listening to them on his radio.

Whether I make it through them or not, that's always a happy association for me.

2-0 Mets. Let's hope that Flores can rub a little dirt on his ankle and be able to stay in the game.

Wonder what would happen if they said "screw it" and did the hitting drills 3x a week instead.

Still has the great voice and all, but he seems to be just reading off pre-game notes for his knowledge. We're spoiled a bit by Gary & Howie but having a p-b-p man who knows all the current goings-on in the game makes a big difference. I don't think Scully does and therefore is overly reliant on whatever he's being fed on paper. He just gave the score of the in-progress Arizona game as 2-0 Baltimore, for instance, even though the crawl right on the screen changed it to first 2-1 and then 2-2 a while earlier.

It's not the source of the notes that's the problem, it's that he needs to rely on them so much because he doesn't know enough about the other team to speak without them. Gary works with notes and stats (everyone does) but he's also just such a baseball junkie that he can deviate from them or add to them on his own. Scully obviously can't. That's what happens when you're 80-whatever and have cut back on your schedule to where you only rarely see the east teams (Scully doesn't travel anywhere east of Denver).

Scully is like Ralph a bit in that he knows the old stories better than the new ones.

Oh. I thought he still did more games. As with Ralph, I'll let them slide out of respect. But looks like Vin should cut down even more.

Not only Garys knowledge but his experiences as a Met fan. We are so fortunate to have a broadcaster who grew up right along with us and the team and its not just a job to him. Its his calling.

A winnable game that we managed, for a variety of reasons, not to win.

the offense is woefully inept.

This game really pissed me off. The kind of game that loses a series.

Eh, they did get ten hits plus two walks so it wasn't one of those nights where they were flailing all evening. It was more one of those games where the timing simply sucked all night.

The biggest problem came when five of the first eight batters getting hits resulted in just two runs thanks to the missed bunt (9th batter of the game) plus the two GiDPs (2nd & 10th). That inning plus the two more we left on base in the 3rd blew a real chance of running Nolasco's ass out of the game early but we let him off the hook.
After that it was the FIVE LOBsters in the 7th & 8th while the Dodgers bunched most of their shit in one inning (cheap hits, real hits, our only error).

Dodgers left 3 on, we left 9

We chase Nolasco early, and we're feasting on the back end of the bullpen for a good chunk of the series.

We have a deeper bench, we're making some deadly counter-moves, like sending Brown (or Duda!) up for Quintanilla with two men on in the eighth.

We have a deeper bench and a little more wa and a little less ego massaging, we're maybe sending Satin or Brown up for Davis when they send in a ridiculous junkballing lefty against him.

Feels like the first time in a month Ike's gone down chasing that low breaking pitch like he did the whole first half. Ah, what's the use? What's the use?

Feels just like the beginning of a long losing streak, doesn't it?

Wow there's a lot of rage in this thread. Makes me glad I went to bed with the Mets up 2-0 and cruising.

He's just doing what he does. I'm just curious as to whether he and Ice-T and fuckin' Meathead were doing it in May.

Going to the game alone, with ringside seats, basking in Johnny-come-lately reflected glory, looking for all the world like Billy Crystal west.

But you know, he's back with his wife, and loves animals, and is noticeably old, so I shouldn't be bringing the hammer down on him, but a strange amount of bitter antipathy bubbled out of me last night and some of it landed on him.

Re: IGT, 8/12, Hey, Puig, Meet the Mets

The MFYs basically won on a questionable strike call and the Mets lost on one. It was just a hateful night all around.

A ridiculous strike 1 on Trumbo with the bases loaded and 1 out and Angels down by 1, after which he and the next guy whiffed chasing other pitches out of the zone.
