Craigslist

Anybody use this to sell anything lately?

I got rid of a bunch of my dad's stuff through CL a few years back and had absolutely no problems.
But now it seems that they've got some kind of new system where, before your ad can be accepted, you need to first receive and act on a return email from them. And, as you can probably guess by the existence of this post, I'm not getting their return emails. Have tried at least a half dozen different submissions (some weeks ago, some just recently) and haven't seen a single return to confirm I can go ahead.

Craigslist itself is worse than useless in fixing or identifying where the problem might lay. They provide a series of elementary FAQ answers: Your email could be full; our message is being diverted to a spam folder; maybe things are slow and it'll still show up if you'd only wait a bit; etc. If none of those are the answer they do permit you to write to them outlining your specific problem ... at which point they send you back a set of possible fixes: like suggesting that maybe your email is full; or that the message is being diverted to a spam file; or that you need to give it just a bit more time, yadda, yadda. IOW, Fuck You, we don't have time or interest in talking to you.

And, needless to say, my ISP is equally uninterested in admitting that this could possibly be in any way their fault, nor are they able to tell me if ANY messages to me are being diverted and/or are holed up in some spam file somewhere (and judging by the amount of span I do see, there can't be much that they are holding back). Last I heard from them was a "we'll check this out and get back to you" and that was about four days ago.

So has anyone used this site and had problems placing an ad since this return email system was in place and how/if did you get around it?

Re: Craigslist

I haven't run into that issue but I did run into a similar one when trying to register for a chance at the NYC marathon. My Gmail account was not receiving a confirmation message, and I ended up signing up again with my Yahoo email account and it did the trick.

Email accounts are free -- try a different provider and see if that makes a difference.

FK, any luck yet? I don't use Craigslist, but your story sounds so interesting I wondered how it went!

Re: Craigslist

Ummm, I'm not sure where the "interesting" part of the story is.

Craigslist itself is fine. If you haven't used it it's like a free, electronic classified ads section that you can use either locally or out of your area and I've both sold and bought a few things through them over the last few years.
My problem right now is that when I try to place a new ad either CL isn't sending me the confirmation needed to complete the posting or my ISP isn't passing along the confirmation needed to complete the posting and each one is, by their silence on the matter, effectively saying that it's the other side's fault.

Re: Craigslist

Peek in the "spam" folder make sure it wasn't sent there. If not there, then set up a new account with a different email address and try again.

I don't mean interesting as in "amusing"...I just found it interesting that they give such lame reasons for not getting back to you with an email. It's a wonder they didn't tell you to check and make sure your computer was plugged in.

Re: Craigslist

There might be psychopaths at the supermarket too but I weighed those odds against starving and decided I'm going to leave my house anyway.

Re: Craigslist

Some nice man at a State College Walmart today offered me money to help me buy baby stuff for my son's fiance's sister's baby girl....
I politely declined, but when I priced the strollers I reconsidered.
