The Irish Music Photo Archive

This will be some what familiar to metsirish and maybe anyone else who's friends with me on facebook or follows me on twitter.

right - there's a short version and a long version. The short version says
click here and vote (and do it every day for the next 12!)
[url]https://www.arthurguinnessprojects.com/music/irish-music-photo-archive
and get ALL your friends to do it, we're about 6 weeks behind some of the other projects so we need to get to a critical mass QUICKLY

I'll try and keep the long version brief. As you know I've been involved in development of hotpress.com and the whole field of content on the web for the last few years and one of the projects I'm working on that's going to market shortly is the Irish Music Photo Archive. The basic concept is simple, tens of thousands of photos properly digitised and catalogued for searching, viewing and sale (either for re-use or as prints). The archive already has plans put in place with some of Ireland's leading music photographers and we'll get dozens more involved quickly enough. It will open up new revenue streams to them, and allowing guys who aren't big enough to have a saleable catalogue on their own to get a platform, while also unlocking a veritable cultural treasure trove to the modern era - If you don't see the crowd shots from Lisdoonvarna 1981 you'll never forgive yourself! Anyway, this is part of an ongoing plan as is nicely coming to fruition over the next few months. However, one of the things that we also thought would be great as part of the launch of this is to create a living snapshot of the current state of Irish Music in photos.
How the hell do you do that?
Well we came up with the idea of "SHOOT 500" where we would do photo-shoots with 500 artists/bands of the now. They'll be from all walks of musical life and they'll provide a fascinating cultural document.
This is where the Arthur Guinness Projects (AGP) come in, we reckon it's the perfect way of funding this. The aim of the AGP is to provide funding for creative projects that have cultural importance and resonance, but that also have a potential life past "the funding". It's why we think this is perfect for it. It'll allow modern irish musicians to be represented in the Irish Music Photo Archive but not only that, because the AGP would be helping fund it, we'd give each of the bands/artists a selection of shots for their own use for free. In that way, it'd be a real and substantial contribution to the overall Irish music ecosystem.
Right, that wasn't too long - there's plenty more in the overall plan, so if you've ANY queries just holler.

But most importantly, if you'd go
[url]https://www.arthurguinnessprojects.com/music/irish-music-photo-archive
and vote, and (really importantly) ask your family and friends to - they way the AGP thing works, people were allowed submit a project in mid june and have been voting for it since then, we've got to catch up quick because as long as we get into the judges considerations, we're sure they'll bite the bullet and give this fantastic project the funding to allow it to happen & remember you can vote EVERY day

I wonder if there will be any photos of the smoke-filled rooms in the Bronx that my parents took me to hear Irish music when I was little.

This will definitely be a great asset for my In Tua Nua-themed birthday party.

That actually would be a nice little side business --- semi-obscure band party supplies.

Right folks,
getting to crunch time with this. We've had a fairly successful go at it so far, and I have to thank the bould metirish for his help. However, we could really use any extra votes going, it is only going till Friday. You can vote every day, the voting resets at 7pm EST (midnight here).

Honestly it only takes 2 minutes, and every vote does help.

Re: The Irish Music Photo Archive

I did some research and found out Steeleye Span were more Irish-influenced English folk rock, and not Irish per se, so yer off the hook on that one.
