Tyson Chicken IGT 8/15/13

I suppose with 4 at San Diego and 1 in Minnesota it's not too late yet to make this a real positive road trip, but to do so almost requires a resounding victory tonight over the Padres.

Wheels opposes Tyson Ross, 10 oclock.

I barely heard of Tyson Ross and I don't know the enemy yet but this Ross kid is a 6-6 righty with a 2.75 ERA over 7 starts. Seems to have good stuff but given up on by Oakland where he spent parts of 3 years.

The good thing about this kid getting delayed so long is that by the time he finally gets here he'll be ready for 2nd grade.
Avoids all that having to arrange pre-school sign-up shit.

Very loud (could be 3 guys sitting by the mic) Lets Go Mets chanting here in the 1st.
Two out single by Byrd.

The Tom Seaver bobblehead they keep advertising looks nothing like Seaver.

I bet we see the same mold next year for a Matt Harvey bobblehead - it looks more like him than Seaver.

Wheeler looking good. Has some nice drop on his curve. But Ross is also looking good. Three Mets already caught looking at third strikes.

0-0 after 1& 1/2

I'll never understand how they cant get em even close. I guess thats a little close. But this is Tom Seaver. It should be perfect! Should be the best bobblehead we ever had.

This looks more like Keith:

I was out in the garage and I switch on the AM radio and-it always happens like this-I hear static and then words and static, in and out, and it ALWAYS goes out during the most important words.
So:long drive~~~~~~back in~~~~~~a stand up triple!

There was a review? It should pop up as a replay soon.

Got the replay on the triple. Wow, Young almost caught that, and then off the TOP of the wall. What an effort. He played that well.

Wheeler in a little pickle here. 2 on, 0 out.

Wheelers back to throwing many pitches. Approaching 80 pitches after four. That coulda been worse. The kid battles.

Ks to end the side, big K, his 9th.

That Young play was the play of the year where an out wasn't made.

On the other hand, he didn't get behind that Sac Fly all that well.

Re: Tyson Chicken IGT 8/15/13

He's very athletic.

He also gets a terrible read on balls, is subpar at putting himself in a position to make throws, and generally plays about as awful as you can on defense while still getting to balls and making most catches.

No he didn't. And he had all the time in the world. He clearly needs more experience if he's gonna stay out there.

One thing about the wall play was that it hit the meat of his glove. I always felt if you get it that close to your glove you should be able to get it in the glove. But he was flying there. Shwoosh. I accused him of not being able to play balls over his head. Hes improving. Still, directly over his head is an adventure.

It's like EYJr has infielder genes and instincts with an OFer's athleticism.

Poor OF throws annoy me probably more than anything else if for no other reason than I'm convinced that back in my day I had at least an average major league OFer's arm. I have very little ego about my athletic abilities but I know I could throw so bad throws in from the OF are the only situation where I'm saying to myself, "I could have done better than that".

I was going to say in my post that as an outfielder if I got that much leather on trhe ball Id feel I should have had it.

Except that 99% of the world doesn't even get a glove on it, and it's still an amazing catch even if you do.
No, trust me on this one, I am NOT sitting at home saying I could have done that one better. The throw I honestly believe I could have done better (although we'd have to turn the clock back about a quarter century or so).

I'm one of the 1%! But catch it? Last time I tried to make a play like that, I don't remember if I caught the ball. When I came down off the wall I broke my ankle. I remember that part.:(

This should be Wheelers last. 11 Ks, still tied 1-1. 111 pitches. I'll tip my cap to him before he even gets out of this.
