IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings

Daisuke Matsuzaka returns after an inauspicious beginning to his first start, though he settled down nicely later. We'll see who the real Daisuke is.

Mets bringing in Daisuke for an attempt at career rejuvenation/redemption reminds me of Ol' Bill Metsiac, who dearly wanted a private audience with Steve Phillips, to convince him of the wisdom of bringing back Hidecki Irabu, at a point that seemed like years after Irabu had retired to the links or a lawn chair or wherever.

I also guess the name "Matsuzaka" shares a common root with "Matsui."

And from out of the hat Manager Collins will use to choose his lineups for the rest of 2013...

Eric Young, Jr. – LF
Juan Lagares – CF
Andrew Brown – RF
Ike Davis – 1B
Josh Satin – 3B
Wilmer Flores – 2B
Justin Turner – SS
Travis d’Arnaud – C
Daisuke Matsuzaka - RHP

Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings

Nice throw by d' on the steal of second. Phils heads say Flores (who they call Murphy) screwed up by not hanging at the bag. He was not in a good position there, he passed the bag, this is true.

Still a very nice and powerful throw by d'. He put a lil extra ooomph on that. lil bit.

Lagares really ripped that. A line double to the leftfield wall in the first.

I used to like them a lot. Especially when Harry was still around. Even after they were very smart and informative and weren't brown noses. Fortunately they didn't have to be cuz the Phils got real good. But these days they do seem a lil browny and a lil whiney. lil bit. Don't think they ever were the best but they are up there in my book. The one guy, McCarthy I think, is to the Phils booth what Gary is to the Mets. He knows his phillishit.

Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings

Its strange not to see 'ol Charlie waddling out there. Travis wanted to make another nice throw but Mayberry says NO!, and hits him with his bat. Runner steals but is returned to first.

Now bases philled, 1 out, Matz to Hamels.

Turner powers a double to the CF wall with two outs. And he is stranded.

It's possible the hitters behind him were too shocked to do anything about it.

I like Mr. M's change-up. Effective when he's got fastball command, and with an adorable little fillip of a drop at the end.

Well, he's in the last year of his contract, so letting him throw 140 pitches isn't out of the question. I hear he's done it before.

Hmm. We just lost three pitchers in the span of a few weeks. We need a guy who can eat up innings and pitch deep into games. I know, get me Matsuzaka!

OK by me. May he live long and prosper and allAdat but I don't give a shit about his arm. Matz takes a page from Niese's notebook and hits! Swaps places with EY and Young ripsoff a base.

Now all we have to do is attach that timer to a device that zaps the pitcher with an electric shock whenever he goes over the proscribed limit.
10th shock within one game will be of lethal dosage.

Great Justin Turner stat. Out of 446 qualifiers (at least 75 AB):

Major League Leaders, Runs (min 75 AB)
1. Matt Carpenter STL 100
2. Miguel Cabrera DET 95
446. Justin Turner 4

Nice lol for that but also a lil fear that the future of baseball might be more in line with that than what I would wish.

But I guarantee you that every hurler would pick up the pace long before they ever got to that 10th zapping.
Now I just have to devise a similar penalty for slow batters.

Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings

Well, it was a relayed throw from Young through Turner. Mostly is was a dumb play by Rollins, his second of the game.
Charlie had to set Jimmy straight a number of times over the years. I wonder if Ryno is going to have the guts/freedom to do the same.

Ohandbytheway... the game's been on for two hours and change, and we've got four more regulation innings to go, at least.

It's a shame Mr. M left the Junior Circuit-- he's such a perfect fit there, pacing-wise.

When Dice-K and Carson are your first two weapons, it's likely a long irrelevant night.

I wanna applaud Dice for extracting himself from some of the problems he made for himslef, but a team can't live that way. This could easily have been a double-figure deficit by the 3rd inning.

Sucky suckity suckums. Watched innings 6-9. Nothing to see here, kids. Maybe when Wright gets back, but until then this is one sorry ass toothless lineup.
