IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings

Daisuke Matsuzaka returns after an inauspicious beginning to his first start, though he settled down nicely later. We'll see who the real Daisuke is.

And from out of the hat Manager Collins will use to choose his lineups for the rest of 2013...

Zvon Aug 28 2013 05:26 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Nice throw by d' on the steal of second. Phils heads say Flores (who they call Murphy) screwed up by not hanging at the bag. He was not in a good position there, he passed the bag, this is true.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 28 2013 05:31 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
That's why folks call the Phils crew the best in the biz*!
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 05:32 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Lagares really ripped that. A line double to the leftfield wall in the first.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 05:38 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |

I used to like them a lot. Especially when Harry was still around. Even after they were very smart and informative and weren't brown noses. Fortunately they didn't have to be cuz the Phils got real good. But these days they do seem a lil browny and a lil whiney. lil bit. Don't think they ever were the best but they are up there in my book. The one guy, McCarthy I think, is to the Phils booth what Gary is to the Mets. He knows his phillishit.

Zvon Aug 28 2013 05:47 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Its strange not to see 'ol Charlie waddling out there. Travis wanted to make another nice throw but Mayberry says NO!, and hits him with his bat. Runner steals but is returned to first.

Zvon Aug 28 2013 05:51 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Dice-K gets out of it. Nice. 0-0
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 05:59 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Turner powers a double to the CF wall with two outs. And he is stranded.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 28 2013 06:04 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
It's possible the hitters behind him were too shocked to do anything about it.
|
Edgy MD Aug 28 2013 06:08 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Don't want to keep digging a hole, Daisuke. That's not naisuke.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 06:10 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Byrd woulda caught that on the fly.
|
Edgy MD Aug 28 2013 06:18 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Great. Angel behind the plate.
|
themetfairy Aug 28 2013 06:20 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
The little clock timing how long Dice-K is taking between pitches is amusing.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 06:21 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Wow, got out of another one. But like eightyhundred pitches in only the fourth. Could he please keep us in the game AND eat up innings?
|
Edgy MD Aug 28 2013 06:22 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Not the ideal model of success for ya?
|
Edgy MD Aug 28 2013 06:23 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
And he splits the outfielders like a pro!

Welcome to Matsuzaka-land
|
Centerfield Aug 28 2013 06:27 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Hmm. We just lost three pitchers in the span of a few weeks. We need a guy who can eat up innings and pitch deep into games. I know, get me Matsuzaka!
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 06:27 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
|
OK by me. May he live long and prosper and allAdat but I don't give a shit about his arm. Matz takes a page from Niese's notebook and hits! Swaps places with EY and Young ripsoff a base.
|
Frayed Knot Aug 28 2013 06:27 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |

Now all we have to do is attach that timer to a device that zaps the pitcher with an electric shock whenever he goes over the proscribed limit. 10th shock within one game will be of lethal dosage.

Great Justin Turner stat. Out of 446 qualifiers (at least 75 AB):

Zvon Aug 28 2013 06:33 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Nice. Heads up tag by Young and then Ike singles him in.
|
Edgy MD Aug 28 2013 06:33 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Lefties don't faze Ike.

Nice lol for that but also a lil fear that the future of baseball might be more in line with that than what I would wish.

But I guarantee you that every hurler would pick up the pace long before they ever got to that 10th zapping. Now I just have to devise a similar penalty for slow batters.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 06:54 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
I missed the play where Rollins was out at third. Good play by Young? Oh shit, that tied it. And we already got our one run for the night.
|
themetfairy Aug 28 2013 06:56 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Yes - it was a good throw that got Rollins at third.
|
Frayed Knot Aug 28 2013 07:00 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Well, it was a relayed throw from Young through Turner. Mostly is was a dumb play by Rollins, his second of the game.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 07:04 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Gives em the lead with a HBP. Gah.
|
Frayed Knot Aug 28 2013 07:10 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Between Ruf, Orr, and Lee, the Phils look like they're hiring guys who will save them the most money on lettering.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 28 2013 07:10 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Carson: Still not any good.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 07:11 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Dammitt. Carson almost got out of it. And it was freakin Hamels!

And we call up guys with apostrophes and upside-down lowercase letters. And Omar Quintanilla.

But, as per Carson-via-Gary, he's a different sort of terrible.
|
Edgy MD Aug 28 2013 07:14 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Matsuzaka's funny. Gets his strikeuts, but not too much for getting regular contact outs. Kinda guy that makes you want to start HoJo at short.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 28 2013 07:16 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Ohandbytheway... the game's been on for two hours and change, and we've got four more regulation innings to go, at least.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 07:17 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Young just has to steal here. They know it, we know it.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 07:18 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
this is gettin crazy tho,lol

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 28 2013 07:27 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Quite the changeup to get Ike in the fifth. Quite.

Looked at another way, by this time yesterday last night's game was already over.

|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 07:57 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Murphy with a pinch hit hit. Down 5-1. Yea Young, lets bunt.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 07:58 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Murph is a crazy man. Crazy I tell ya!
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 28 2013 08:01 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Impressed with Brown's non-pop-upping there.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 08:01 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Brown drives one through the gap to the wall. Just doin his job.

HJB!
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 08:05 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Yea, mighta been low Ike. But don't make an issue of the fact that Angel sucks. You should not be surprised.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 28 2013 08:19 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Maybe it's my increasingly-holey memory, but I don't recall Teufel making a play as nice in the field when it counted as he did just then, on that foul hot-shot.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 28 2013 08:24 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
I just may skip Matsuzaka's starts from now on. But the Mets may too.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 08:25 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Ha! Flores suc....oh he's on our team. Nevermind.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 28 2013 08:26 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Wilmer Flores' defense smells more like basura.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 28 2013 08:32 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Of course, that might just be Old Man Atchison's liniments my nose is detecting. Those reek something awful, too.
|
Zvon Aug 28 2013 08:48 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Meh. So Matz ate up 4.3. Whoopdiedoo.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 28 2013 09:35 PM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
When Dice-K and Carson are your first two weapons, it's likely a long irrelevant night.
|
seawolf17 Aug 29 2013 07:27 AM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |

My sole memory of Tim Teufel's defense is Game 1 of the '86 Series.
|
Fman99 Aug 29 2013 10:31 AM Re: IGT, 8/28, Why the Caged Byrd Sings |
Sucky suckity suckums. Watched innings 6-9. Nothing to see here, kids. Maybe when Wright gets back, but until then this is one sorry ass toothless lineup.
